Korea triumphed in the East Asian Championship winning the Final game over Japan
68:58. It was a great game from both teams as they finished the opening quarter
with 19:19. Korea grabbed 38:37 at the half and could increase the lead later in
the third. After 15-12 in the third frame the winners took 53:49 lead. Korea
added 15-9 in the last quarter to clinch the first place in the tournament. Kim
Min Soo led Korea with 16 points. Joo Hee Jung and Bang Sung Yoon each scored
13.
Kosuke Takeuchi (205-C/F-85) had 14 points and 12 rebounds for Japan and
Joji Takeuchi (205-C-85) had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Before that Korea overcame Chinese Taipei 86:71 to advance to the finals.
Trailing 15-17 in the opening quarter, Kore produced 17-9 in the second period
to stay in front. An offensive 28-27 in the third period gave the winners 6
points advantage after 20 minutes of the game. Another 26-18 sent Korea to the
Finals of the East Asian Championship. The winners got 19 points from Kim Min
Soo. Yang Che-Yi ended up with 21 points for Taipei.
Both teams made the Asian Championships, along with automatically invited China.
Korea, Chinese Taipei Win Big - Jun.
12, 2009 As expected,
Korea and Chinese Taipei both won lopsided victories over undermanned Hong Kong
and Mongolia in the East Asian Championships in Nagoya, Japan.
Korea defeated Hong Kong 92-71 and Taipei defeated Mongolia 99-59. Korea will
face Chinese Taipei in the first semi-final tomorrow while Japan faces China in
the second. Mongolia and Hong Kong will contend for fifth place.
Two teams will make the Asian Championship, aside from China. China is
guaranteed entry into the Championship as its host.

to Korea today 70-62 in the East Asia championship, bringing its record in the
preliminary round to 1-1.
China trailed 21-12 after one quarter but led 28-26 at the half. China trailed
52-51 after three quarters and was outscored 18-11 in the fourth quarter.
Su
Wei (212-C-89) led China with 15 points and 7 rebounds. But he hit only 3 of
10 free throws and committed 6 turnovers. Su was the only Chinese player in
double figures.
Luo Zhi scored 9 points, but fouled out in 23 minutes. Zhang Kai had 7 points
and 7 rebounds. Zhou Peng had 7 points and 4 rebounds. But he missed all 7
2-point shots he attempted and hit only 4 of 8 free throws. He did hit 1 of 2
three-pointers.
7-footer Ha Seung-Jin is injured, as are other Korean stars. Korea's tallest
players are 200 cm. China played 212 cm

Wei, 211 cm Zhang Kai and 206 cm Zhou Peng for most of the game.
Nevertheless Korea outrebounded China 46-39.
200 cm Kim Min Soo led Korea with 17 points. 182 cm guard Joo Hee Jung had 13
points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. 194 cm forward Yang Hee Jong had 11
points and 6 rebounds.
In the other game today, host Japan defeated Mongolia 109-65. China will face
Japan Saturday in one of the semi-finals. Korea will likely face Chinese Taipei
in the other if it beats Hong Kong while Taipei defeats Mongolia tomorrow.
China Defeats Hong Kong in East Asian Championship - Jun.

China defeated Hong Kong 99-64 in the opening game of the East Asian
championship in Nagoya, Japan.
Guangdong's young star,
Zhou Peng (207-F-89), led China with 23 points and 5 rebounds. Veteran Zhang
Nan of Zhejiang Guangsha had 16 points and 4 rebounds. Su Wei had 14 points and
8 rebounds. Chen Lei and Qiu Biao each scored 13. Zhang Kai had 7 points and 10
rebounds. Lau Chi Kin, Poon Chi Ho and Fong Shing Yee each had 12 for Hong Kong.
Chen Kam Hing scored 10. China led 30-16 after one quarter, 53-37 at the half
and 77-56 after three quarters. It outscored Hong Kong 22-8 in the fourth
quarter.China's starting five was Zhang
Kai, Su Wei, Zhou Peng, Zhang Nan and Yang Ming.
Japan defeated Chinese Taipei 78-66 in the other game played today. China is
grouped with Hong Kong and Korea in the first round while Japan, Chinese Taipei
and Mongolia are in the other first round group. China will play Korea tomorrow.
