The most exciting game of round 36 in the CBA took place in Dongguan. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of one of their biggest challengers Guandong Tigers (20-11) to fifth ranked Ducks (20-11) 96-93 in the game for the fourth place. It was a good game for the former international Rui Zhao (195-1996) who led his team to a victory with 23 points and 5 assists. American point guard Eugene German (183-1997, college: NIU) contributed with 20 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American guard Edmond Sumner (198-1995, college: Xavier) replied with 28 points and 5 assists for Guangdong ST. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Beijing D. moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Guangdong ST and Shenzhen L. Beijing D. is looking forward to face Nanjing (#17) in Jiangsu in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Guangdong ST will play on the road against Sichuan (#20) and is hoping to win this game.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Heroes (20-10) against eleventh ranked Loongs (16-15) on Friday night. Visiting Heroes were defeated by Loongs in a tough game in Taiyuan 94-100. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Heroes. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Marcos Knight (191-1989, college: MTSU, agency: Slash Sports) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 5 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and Hamidou Diallo who added 14 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Keyontae Johnson (195-1999, college: Kansas St.) with 30 points and 6 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Shanxi L. moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Liaoning and Ningbo R. Shandong H. at the other side keeps the third position with ten games lost. Shanxi L. will play against league's leader Shanghai at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Shandong H. will play against Tianjin P. and hopes to get back on the winning track.
CBA top team - Sharks (27-4) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they beat eighteenth ranked Pioneers (9-22) in Tianjin 112-96. The winners were led by Kenneth Lofton Jr who had that evening a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Even a double-double of 23 points and 10 assists by Benson Lin did not help to save the game for Tianjin P.. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Sharks have an impressive 12-game winning streak. Shanghai maintains first position with 27-4 record. Tianjin P. lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the eighteenth place with 22 games lost. They share the position with Jiangsu D.. Shanghai will meet Shanxi L. (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Tianjin P. will play against Shandong H. (#3) in Jinan and hope to secure a win.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 36: Shenzhen L. beat Fujian S. on the road 107-104. Jiangsu D. won against Jilin NE T. on its own court 78-72. Guangsha L. managed to outperform Sichuan in Hangzhou 91-81. Beijing managed to beat Ningbo R. at home 94-78. Liaoning was defeated by Guangzhou on the opponent's court 93-77. Qingdao E. was beaten by Zhejiang GB. in a home game 96-100. Nanjing lost to Xinjiang on the road 87-94.
The most impressive performance of 36th round was 16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists by Abudurexiti Abudushalamu of Xinjiang FT.




Fujian S. - Shenzhen L. 104-107

No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Leopards (20-11) edged 15th ranked Sturgeons (12-19) in Jinjiang 107-104 on Friday. Shenzhen L. looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The winners were led by American guard Terquavion Smith (193-2002, college: NC State) who scored that evening 29 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and the former international forward Haoran Wang (205-2004) supported him with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Even a double-double of 21 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 blocks by French power forward Yoan Makoundou (207-2000) did not help to save the game for Fujian S.. American point guard QJ Peterson (183-1994, college: VMI, agency: JCK Sports Group) added 20 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Sturgeons' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Leopards have an impressive six-game winning streak.
