CBA Round 8 (Regular Season): Leader Beijing D. gets another victory

It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in CBA, but even now we can clearly see the difference between stronger teams and outsiders. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Undefeated leader Ducks delivered the seventh consecutive win on Sunday night. This time they crushed 16th ranked Sturgeons (2-5) 96-70 in Jinjiang. Beijing D. made 23-of-24 free shots (95.8 percent) during the game. Beijing D. had a 31-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American-Lebanese Omari Spellman (206-1997, college: Villanova) who scored 7 points and 11 rebounds. chipped in 17 points (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). produced 9 points and 9 rebounds for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Ducks (7-0) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Beijing D. maintains first position with a perfect record of 7 victories in a row, which they share with Guangdong ST. Fujian S. at the other side dropped to the fifteenth place with five games lost. They share the position with Zhejiang GB. and Xinjiang. Beijing D. is looking forward to face Guangsha L. (#3) in Hangzhou in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Fujian S. will play at home against Jilin NE T. (#7) and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
Bottom-ranked Blue Whales (0-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 88-52 loss to fifth ranked Sharks (5-2) in Shanghai. American-Qatari Brandon Goodwin (188-1995, college: FGCU) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Pengfei Yan contributed with 12 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American-Lebanese Omari Spellman (206-1997, college: Villanova) replied with 11 points for Sichuan. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sharks have a solid three-game winning streak. Shanghai maintains fifth position with 5-2 record. Sichuan at the other side still closes the standings with seven games lost. Shanghai will play against Beijing (#11) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Sichuan will play against Ningbo R. (#9) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
The game in Taiyuan was also quite interesting. Top-ranked Guandong Tigers (7-0) played at the court of 7th ranked Loongs (4-3). Guandong Tigers managed to secure a 6-point victory 95-89 on Sunday. Worth to mention a great performance of Jared Sullinger who helped to win the game recording 9 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals. Jaylen Nowell responded with 24 points and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Xinjiang was beaten by Zhejiang GB. in Hangzhou 95-77.

Beijing RF - Liaoning FL 81-77

There was an upset in Beijing where higher ranked Flying Leopards (4-3) were defeated by sixteenth ranked Royal Fighters (3-4) 81-77 on Saturday. Beijing outrebounded Liaoning 42-28 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Beijing looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Beijing made 8 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Reggie Perry (208-2000, college: MSU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 28 points and 18 rebounds and Sanning Liao who added 5 points and 16 assists during the contest. American-Qatari Brandon Goodwin (188-1995, college: FGCU) responded with 33 points (!!!) and American guard Dezmine Wells (196-1992, college: Maryland) scored 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
