CBA Round 40 (Regular Season): No surprise as #1 Guangsha L. defeat Jilin NE T.

The games are now more important than at the beginning of the Regular Season. We may still expect few shocking results in upcoming 8 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

CBA top team - Guangsha Lions (33-6) managed to deliver another win on Tuesday. This time they beat fourteenth ranked Jilin Tigers (13-26) in Changchun 118-103. Guangsha L. outrebounded Jilin NE T. 48-35 including 18 on the offensive glass. Guangsha L. looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Jilin NE T. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a quality performance of American power forward Josh Carlton (209-1999, college: Houston) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import Barry Brown Jr (190-1996, college: Kansas St.) who added 17 points and 8 assists during the contest. At the losing side American guard Dominique Jones (193-1988, college: S.Florida) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists (made all of his eight free throws). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guangsha L. maintains first position with 33-6 record. Jilin NE T. lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth place with 26 games lost. Guangsha L. are looking forward to face Guangdong ST (#6) in Dongguan in the next round where they are favorite. Jilin NE T. will play at home against Shanghai (#10) and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
Important game to mention about took place in Shanghai. Ninth ranked Golden Bulls (25-14) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 10th ranked Sharks (23-15) 99-97 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Sharks. The winners were led by American Gabe York (190-1993, college: Arizona) who scored that evening 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and Zeyi Liu supported him with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Even a double-double of 40 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds by American forward Kenneth Lofton Jr (201-2002, college: La Tech) did not help to save the game for Shanghai. Sharks' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Zhejiang GB. moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Liaoning and Qingdao E. Shanghai at the other side keeps the tenth position with 15 games lost. Zhejiang GB. will play against Nanjing (#12) in Jiangsu in the next round where they are favorite. Shanghai will play on the road against Jilin NE T. in Changchun and hopes to get back on the winning track.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 40: Qingdao E. lost to Beijing D. on the opponent's court 101-110. Fujian S. managed to outperform Ningbo R. in a home game 116-111. Sichuan was rolled over Guangdong ST on the road 101-73. Tianjin was defeated by Guangzhou on its own court 87-96. Shenzhen L. was beaten by Xinjiang in Urumqi 118-102.

Beijing D. dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Eagles's 36. Beijing D. outrebounded Qingdao E. 49-36 including 19 on the offensive glass. Beijing D. looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Beijing D. made 9 blocks. The former international center Qi Zhou (217-1996) fired a double-double by scoring 23 points and 20 rebounds for the winners.
