Bottom-rankedBlack Bears (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 110-94 loss to ninth ranked Beermen (2-2) in Manila on Tuesday evening. SM Beermen dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Black Bears 's 56. SM Beermen outrebounded Macau 52-41 including 37 on the defensive glass. SM Beermen looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American center Justin Patton (216-1997, college: Creighton) had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 17 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and center June Mar Fajardo (210-1989) chipped in 16 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was American-Mexican forward Tony Mitchell (203-1992, college: N.Texas) with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and American Damian Chongqui (-1998) scored 19 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion moved-up to eighth place. Loser Black Bears still closes the standings with five games lost.
