The game had a very big importance for fifth-rankedFiberXers as it allowed them to take a leadership position. FiberXers edged 3rd ranked Beermen in Manila 100-97 . FiberXers dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Beermen 's 36. Strangely SM Beermen outrebounded FiberXers 54-39 including a 21-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Guard Schonny Winston (193-1998) scored 25 points and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and forward Justine Arana (201-1999) chipped in 21 points during the contest. At the losing side center June Mar Fajardo (210-1989) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 23 rebounds and 7 assists and guard Jaymar Perez (188-1993) scored 17 points and 4 assists. Four SM Beermen players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. SM Beermen at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams.
