Regular Season Round 14: Astana - Tobol 101-48

There was no surprise in Nur-Sultan where 5th ranked Tobol (3-27) was crushed by first ranked Astana (25-3) 101-48 on Monday. Astana dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Tobol's 26. Astana forced 20 Tobol turnovers and outrebounded them 48-25 including a 19-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Astana looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Tobol's players. The former international forward Ruslan Aitkali (195-1997) had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the former international center Robert Pan (202-1995) chipped in 14 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Five Astana players scored in double figures. Astana's coach Ramunas Cvirka felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. The former international forward Anton Bykov (200-1989) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and the former international swingman Pavel Ilyin (194-1992) scored 11 points. Astana maintains first position with 25-3 record. Tobol lost fourth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 27 lost games. Astana will meet at home league's second-placed Caspiy Aktau in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Tobol will play against Barsy Atyrau and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
