Regular Season Round 56: Sea Horses M. - Kawasaki BT 105-101

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Brave Thunders (17-39) lost to third ranked SeaHorses (37-19) in Kariya 101-105 on Wednesday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Sea Horses M. made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Strangely Kawasaki outrebounded Sea Horses M. 43-27 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Sea Horses M. looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. The winners were led by American forward Jake Layman (206-1994, college: Maryland) who scored that evening 19 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import power forward Davante Gardner (203-1991, college: Marquette) supported him with 15 points and 7 assists. Five SeaHorses players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 28 points, 20 rebounds and 5 assists by American Alize Johnson (206-1996, college: Missouri St.) did not help to save the game for Kawasaki. Hungarian-American Rosco Allen (208-1993, college: Stanford, agency: Pensack Sports) added 34 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. SeaHorses have a solid three-game winning streak. Sea Horses M. maintains third position with 37-19 record having seven points less than leader Tochigi Brex. Loser Brave Thunders keeps the eighth place with 39 games lost. Sea Horses M. will meet FE Nagoya (#6) on the road in the next round. Kawasaki will play against the league's second-placed Alvark Tokyo and hope to secure a win.
