Regular Season Round 40: Toyama G. - Kagoshima 95-96

A very close game took place in Toyama between Kagoshima and Grouses. Second ranked Kagoshima (28-12) got a very close victory on the road over one of their biggest challengers Grouses (25-15). Kagoshima managed to escape with a 1-point win 96-95 in the fight for the second place. Kagoshima made 28-of-32 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of Dutch center Matt Haarms (221-1997, college: BYU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 6 blocks and American swingman Anthony Gaines Jr (195-1993, college: LCU) who added 22 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American-Filipino forward Eugene Phelps (198-1990, college: LBSU) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 17 rebounds and 6 assists and American forward Thomas Kennedy (201-1987, college: Detroit) scored 22 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Kagoshima maintains second position with 28-12 record behind leader Chiba. Toyama G. lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the third place with 15 games lost. Kagoshima will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Toyama G. will play again against the league's second-placed Kagoshima and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
