Regular Season Round 30: San-en NP - Sendai 89ers 129-64

Date: January 12, 2025
Not a big story in a game when 8th ranked 89ers (7-23) were outscored by first ranked San-en NP (25-4) in Hamamatsu 129-64 on Sunday. San-en NP made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game, while Sendai 89ers only scored seven points from the stripe. San-en NP forced 19 Sendai 89ers turnovers and outrebounded them 43-30 including 16 on the offensive glass. San-en NP shot the lights out from three sinking 19 long-distance shots on high 52.8 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 20 passes made by Sendai 89ers' players. American-Nigerian swingman David Nwaba (195-1993, college: Cal Poly) notched 20 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and American forward Yante Maten (201-1996, college: Georgia) supported him with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Nwaba is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five San-en NP players scored in double figures. Even 18 points and 9 rebounds by American Nathan Boothe (208-1994, college: Toledo) did not help to save the game for Sendai 89ers. His fellow American import Stanton Kidd (202-1992, college: Colorado St.) added 13 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. San-en NP have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 25-4 record. Sendai 89ers lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with 23 games lost. They share the position with Ibaraki R.. San-en NP will meet at home Sunrockers Sh. (#4) in the next round. Sendai 89ers will play against Shiga L-Stars and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
