Regular Season Round 17: San-en NP - Chiba Jets 87-79

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when leader Jets (14-3) lost to second ranked San-en NP (14-3) in Hamamatsu 79-87 on Saturday. It was a key game for the top position in the league. San-en NP outrebounded Chiba Jets 47-28 including a 18-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. American-Nigerian swingman David Nwaba (195-1993, college: Cal Poly) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and American forward Yante Maten (201-1996, college: Georgia) accounted for 16 points and 11 rebounds. Nwaba is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five San-en NP players scored in double figures. The former international point guard Yuki Togashi (170-1993) came up with 37 points (!!!) and the former international forward Yuta Watanabe (206-1994, college: GWU) added 11 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Chiba Jets in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. San-en NP keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Chiba Jets. San-en NP will meet at home league's leader Chiba Jets in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Chiba Jets will have a break next round.
