TBL Round 1: SWU rally past Pythons- July 3, 2023
The Regular Season in TBL just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
SWU - Pythons 104-101 SWU edged Pythons at home 104-101. SWU forced 22 Pythons turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Eduardo Doroteo stepped up and scored 28 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and Filipino Argel Mendoza chipped in 21 points and 13 assists. SWU's coach T. Dar Juan used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American forward Sarion McGee (203, college: John A.Logan) responded with a double-double by scoring 43 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds and the other American import guard Brian Garrett (193, college: CS Monterey) scored 26 points and 5 assists. Five SWU and four Pythons players scored in double figures. Pythons will play next round against Eagles trying to get back on the winning streak. SWU will try to continue on its current victory against Kings at home. Devil Rays made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. Devil Rays outrebounded Mammoth 46-33 including 32 on the defensive glass. Tew Fra fired 9 points and 17 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Panudet Kularptip (178) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. Four Devil Rays players scored in double figures. Filipino guard Mark Doligon (189) produced 18 points and 5 assists and American forward Alex Smith (201-1988, college: BCU) added 8 points, 14 rebounds and 8 blocks respectively for lost side. Devil Rays will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Mammoth will play against Pythons and hope to win that game. Thunders forced 19 Kings turnovers and outrebounded them 44-26 including a 30-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Trent Baker (191-1996, college: CBC) fired 32 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Guard Thacharin Narbonne chipped in a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds. Baker is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Thunders' coach P. Prasarnkaew felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Marlon Monte produced 20 points and 4 assists and Adrain Calada added 9 points and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Thunders will meet at home Wave in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kings will play against SWU and hope to win that game. Tigers dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Eagles' 44. Tigers forced 32 Eagles turnovers and outrebounded them 45-32 including a 22-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 19 passes made by Eagles' players. Guard Peerachet Sapsudawong (178-1999) fired a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Guard Takamin Sirijariyaporn (181-1997) chipped in 26 points, 6 assists and 6 steals. Patrick Tchuente produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and Filipino guard Patrick Cabahug (186) added 14 points respectively for lost side. Five Tigers and four Eagles players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tigers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Eagles will play against Pythons and hope to win that game. Visitors were defeated by Wave 94-78. Wave forced 19 T-REX turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. British center Morakinyo Williams (209-1988, college: Citadel) nailed a double-double by scoring 21 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and Filipino point guard James Martinez (170-1987) accounted for 19 points and 12 assists. Five Wave players scored in double figures. American Tevis Robinson (198-1995, college: JWU, FL) came up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds and Filipino point guard Jeff Dumelod Viernes (172-1989) added 20 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for T-REX in the defeat. T-REX's coach B. Gabiola rotated twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Wave will play against Thunders in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. T-REX will play against Eagles to get more than just one victory in their record.
