TBSL Round 6: Adroit beats Raptors in the most crucial game of the week- March 3, 2020
Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
MUBC - ZNO Eagles 152-96 The game with biggest result difference took place in Vietnam. Local MUBC (3-3) outscored 10th ranked ZNO Eagles (1-5) 152-96. MUBC dominated down low during the game scoring 92 of its points in the paint compared to ZNO Eagles' 68. MUBC forced 26 ZNO Eagles turnovers and outrebounded them 55-42 including 23 on the offensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 42 assists. Filipino guard Patrick Cabahug (186) notched a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and Vietnamese Dat Nguyen-Thanh (179) supported him with 38 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Five MUBC players scored in double figures. Even 37 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 6 assists by Filipino swingman JR Cawaling (190-87) did not help to save the game for ZNO Eagles. Filipino Brylle Meca added 16 points. ZNO Eagles' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. MUBC moved-up to fifth place, which they share with BBM CLS. ZNO Eagles lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the ninth position with five games lost. MUBC's next round opponent will be league's leader Hitech in Bangkok and it may be quite challenging game. ZNO Eagles will play against Pegasus (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Pegasus' 14. BBM CLS forced 19 Pegasus turnovers and outrebounded them 61-27 including a 27-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Pegasus' players. Filipino-Canadian guard Alfred Mandani (185-87, college: Missouri S&T) scored 25 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Canadian forward Murphy Burnatowski (203-91, college: Colgate) chipped in 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. BBM CLS's coach Koko Setyo felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Filipino forward Roider Cabrera (193-91) with 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and Filipino Leonidez Avenido (188-78) scored 5 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Newly promoted BBM CLS maintains fifth position with 3-3 record, which they share with MUBC. Pegasus at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with six games lost. BBM CLS will meet at home league's second-placed Luang in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Pegasus will play against ZNO Eagles (#9) and hope to get finally their first victory. Third ranked Adroit faced one of their biggest challengers Raptors. Host Adroit (4-2) smashed guests from (4-2) 73-48. Adroit outrebounded Raptors 55-25 including a 22-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Raptors' players. The best player for the winners was American forward Scott Sill (206-92, college: Delaware St.) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds. Singapore center Naqib Borhan (187-98) chipped in 6 points and 18 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Avery Scharer (185-86, college: Shoreline CC) who recorded 18 points and 6 rebounds and guard Kritsada Kamchan (190) added 9 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Adroit have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 4-2 record having just two points less than leader Hitech, which they share with defeated Raptors. Adroit is looking forward to face Matrix (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Raptors will play against Kabayan (#7) and are hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win. Luang outrebounded Kabayan 57-43 including 19 on the offensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Filipino forward Christopher Ellis (192) notched a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!), 18 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and forward Panurat Chutsiriyingyong (192) supported him with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Four Luang players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 21 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals by American Decorey Jones (201-90, college: Faulkner) did not help to save the game for Kabayan. Filipino guard Mark Doligon (189) added 16 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Kabayan's coach Federico Samson let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Luang have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 5-1 record behind leader Hitech. Kabayan lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with four games lost. Luang's next round opponent will be BBM CLS (#5). Kabayan will play against Raptors and hope to win that game. This time they beat 8th ranked Matrix (2-4) 101-96. Hitech dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Matrix's 30 and made 25-of-33 charity shots (75.8 percent) during the game. Hitech forced 21 Matrix turnovers and had a 19-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Matrix was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American guard Ethan Alvano (185, college: CS San Marcos) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 4 assists. The other American import power forward Charles Christien (216-81, college: Villanova) contributed with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Alvano is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Hitech players scored in double figures. Malaysian power forward Chun Hong Ting (193-96) replied with 33 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 4 assists and Malaysian center Fueng-Chang Zi (194-97) added 30 points and 8 rebounds (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field) in the effort for Matrix. Matrix's coach Jeff Viernes tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Hitech (6-0) have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with a perfect record of 6 victories in a row. Newly promoted Matrix dropped to the seventh place with four games lost. They share the position with Kabayan. Hitech will play against MUBC (#6) in Vietnam in the next round where they are favorite. Matrix will play at home against Adroit and hopes to get back on the winning track.
