TBSL Round 7: ZNO Eagles win their first game

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

ZNO Eagles can celebrate finally their first win this season after five consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Pegasus (0-6) 146-122 on Sunday. ZNO Eagles dominated down low during the game scoring 106 of its points in the paint compared to Pegasus' 68. ZNO Eagles forced 28 Pegasus turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 52 assists comparing to just 30 passes made by Pegasus' players. Filipino swingman JR Cawaling (190-87) fired a triple-double by scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds, 19 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Filipino Brylle Meca chipped in 28 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals. ZNO Eagles' coach felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Serbian center Pavle Cvetinovic (215-97) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points, 34 rebounds and 9 assists for lost side. ZNO Eagles (1-5) left bottom position moving up to ninth place. It was Pegasus' sixth loss in a row. Pegasus at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with six games lost. ZNO Eagles are looking forward to face higher ranked Adroit (#3) in Singapore in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pegasus will play against Matrix (#8) and hope to get finally their first victory.
Undefeated leader Hitech delivered the sixth consecutive victory. This time they beat 6th ranked MUBC (3-3) 101-87 in Bangkok. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of MUBC. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Charles Christien (216-81, college: Villanova) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 18 rebounds. Ethan Alvano contributed with 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Filipino point guard Jerick Canada (170-89) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 8 rebounds and 15 assists for MUBC. Undefeated Hitech (6-0) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with a perfect record of 6 victories in a row. MUBC at the other side dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with BBM CLS. Hitech will play against Raptors (#4) in the next round. MUBC will play against the league's second-placed Luang in Laos and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in was also quite interesting. Second ranked Luang (5-1) played at the court of 5th ranked BBM CLS (3-3). Luang managed to secure a 8-point victory 68-60 on Sunday. It was a great evening for Jose Nouchanthavong who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side Alfred Mandani responded with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Luang. They maintain second place with 5-1 record behind leader Hitech. Newly promoted BBM CLS keeps the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with MUBC. Luang will meet at home MUBC (#6) in the next round. BBM CLS will play against Kabayan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Adroit (4-2) played at the court of 8th ranked Matrix (2-4). Adroit did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 84-66. It was an exceptional evening for Scott Sill who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 19 rebounds. Matrix's coach Jeff Viernes rotated twelve players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the third consecutive win for Adroit. They maintain third place with 4-2 record having just two points less than leader Hitech, which they share with Raptors. Newly promoted Matrix dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. Adroit's next round opponent will be ZNO Eagles (#9) which should be theoretically an easy game. Matrix will play against Pegasus and hope to win that game.
The game with biggest result difference took place in . Local Raptors (4-2) outscored 7th ranked Kabayan (2-4) 153-103 on Sunday night. Avery Scharer fired a triple-double by scoring 45 points (!!!), 10 rebounds, 22 assists and 4 steals (on 21-of-27 shooting from the field) for the winners. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Raptors moved-up to third place, which they share with Adroit. Kabayan lost their third game in a row. They keep the seventh position with four games lost. Raptors will face league's leader Hitech in Bangkok in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Kabayan will play against BBM CLS (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.



Hitech - MUBC 101-87

Hitech players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Charles Christien (216-81, college: Villanova) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 18 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Ethan Alvano (185, college: CS San Marcos) contributed with 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Alvano is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Filipino point guard Jerick Canada (170-89) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 8 rebounds and 15 assists and American power forward DeAngelo Hamilton (203-90, college: WSU) added 17 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for MUBC. Four Hitech and five MUBC players scored in double figures. Hitech (6-0) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with a perfect record of 6 victories in a row. MUBC at the other side dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with BBM CLS. Hitech will play against Raptors (#4) in the next round. Raptors looked well-organized offensively handing out 52 assists comparing to just 32 passes made by Kabayan's players. American point guard Avery Scharer (185-86, college: Shoreline CC) fired a triple-double by scoring 45 points (!!!), 10 rebounds, 22 assists and 4 steals (on 21-of-27 shooting from the field) for the winners. His fellow American import center Reginald Johnson (208-89, college: Miami, FL) chipped in a triple-double by scoring 28 points, 23 rebounds and 11 assists. Scharer is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. American Decorey Jones (201-90, college: Faulkner) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and Filipino forward Andrian Celada (190-88) added 13 points and 8 assists respectively for lost side. Five Raptors and four Kabayan players scored in double figures. Luang made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Luang outrebounded BBM CLS 54-34 including a 21-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American guard Jose Nouchanthavong (188, college: S.Maine) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Nigerian-American center Reggie Okosa (208-80, college: La Salle) helped adding 15 points and 13 rebounds. Nouchanthavong is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Luang players scored in double figures. At the losing side Filipino-Canadian guard Alfred Mandani (185-87, college: Missouri S&T) responded with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists and Canadian forward Murphy Burnatowski (203-91, college: Colgate) scored 7 points and 7 rebounds.
