TBSL Round 7: Luang keeps a leadership position

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game had a very big importance for fourth-ranked Luang as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Luang defeated much higher ranked Hitech in Bangkok 101-94. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Hitech. Luang looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Luang made 9 blocks. Point guard Bobby Syvanthong (179, college: Maine-Fort Kent) fired 7 points, 15 rebounds and 16 assists for the winners. Forward Panurat Chutsiriyingyong (192) chipped in 32 points and 5 rebounds. American power forward Christien Charles (216-81, college: Villanova) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 16 rebounds for lost side. Luang have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with PEA. Defending champion Hitech still keeps top place with one game lost. They share the position with Kabayan.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of PEA (5-2) at the home court. Hosts were rolled over by Kabayan (6-1) 86-66. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of PEA. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Nick Demusis (193, college: Whittier) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists. Michael Earl contributed with 10 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Kabayan's coach Valit Aphaisuwan allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Xavier Dupree (206-94, college: Houston) answered with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 20 rebounds and 6 assists for PEA. Kabayan have a solid series of three victories in a row. They used an opportunity after Hitech lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. PEA at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost. They share the position with Luang.
A very close game took place in between Malaysia Matrix and Pilipinas. Seventh ranked Malaysia Matrix (2-5) got a very close home victory over 5th ranked Pilipinas (2-5). Malaysia Matrix managed to escape with a 1-point win 96-95 in the fight for the sixth place. It was a great evening for Yi-Hou Wong who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points and 5 assists. Malaysia Matrix's coach Brian Lester used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Raymond Miller responded with a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 21 rebounds. Malaysia Matrix moved-up to sixth place, which they share with SWU and Pilipinas. Pilipinas lost fourth consecutive game.
The game in Singapore supposed to be also worth to mention about. Sixth ranked SWU (2-5) played at the court of 8th ranked Adroit (3-4). SWU did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 110-90. It was an exceptional evening for Rashad Ali who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds. SWU's coach Thongchat Phucharoen allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. SWU maintains sixth place with 2-5 record, which they share with Malaysia Matrix and Pilipinas. Adroit lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with four games lost.

The best stats of 7th round was 12 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists by Milos Cabarkapa of Adroit.

PEA - Kabayan 66-86

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of PEA (5-2) at the home court. Hosts were rolled over by Kabayan (6-1) 86-66. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of PEA. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Kabayan players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Nick Demusis (193, college: Whittier) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists. His fellow American import center Michael Earl (203-85, college: Utah St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. The game in Singapore supposed to be also worth to mention about. Sixth ranked SWU (2-5) played at the court of 8th ranked Adroit (3-4). SWU did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 110-90. SWU dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Adroit's 32. They outrebounded Adroit 57-37 including a 39-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. SWU players were unselfish on offense dishing 35 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American center Rashad Ali (198, college: Warren Wilson) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds. Forward Aaron Wadman (185-1) accounted for 23 points and 4 assists for the winning side. SWU's coach Thongchat Phucharoen allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Filipino point guard Almond Vosotros (175) came up with 31 points and 5 assists and Singapore Leon Kwek (190) added 19 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Adroit in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. SWU maintains sixth place with 2-5 record, which they share with Malaysia Matrix and Pilipinas. Adroit lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with four games lost.

Malaysia Matrix managed to escape with a 1-point win 96-95 in the fight for the sixth place. Malaysia Matrix looked well-organized offensively handing out 37 assists. It was a great evening for Malaysian forward Yi-Hou Wong (196-96) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points and 5 assists.
