TPBL Round 5 (Regular Season): Dreamers beat Lioneers by one after a very close game

There were just five rounds played in Regular Season of TPBL and we can clearly see which teams will fight for top positions and which will try to avoid bottom places. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 5 in the TPBL ended with only one-point defeat of 7th ranked Lioneers (2-2) to fifth ranked Dreamers (3-4) 82-81 on Wednesday evening. American forward Trey Thompkins (208-1990, college: Georgia, agency: Octagon Europe) saved the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. His fellow American import power forward Aric Holman (208-1997, college: MSU) contributed with 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American power forward Drew Pember (211-2000, college: UNC Asheville) answered with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 18 rebounds for Lioneers. Lioneers' coach Wesam Al-Sous tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Dreamers moved-up to third place, which they share with Kings. Lioneers at the other side dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with Taipei TM. Dreamers is looking forward to face Kings (#3) in Taipei in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Lioneers will play at home against Kaohsiung A. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a loss of second ranked N.Taipei CTBC (4-3) against fifth ranked Dreamers (3-4) on Friday night. N.Taipei CTBC was defeated by Dreamers in a tough game 87-92. International center Brandon Gilbeck (213-1996, college: W.Illinois) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners and Chien-Hao Ma chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. Dreamers' coach Douglas Creighton allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Swedish forward Viktor Gaddefors (201-1992, agency: 011 Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. Dreamers moved-up to third place, which they share with Kings. N.Taipei CTBC at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. Dreamers will play against Kings (#3) in Taipei in the next round, which may be the game of the day. N.Taipei CTBC will play on the road against Lioneers in Hsinchu and hopes to get back on the winning track.
An interesting game for Leopards (5-0) which played against 4th placed Taipei TM (2-2). Leader Leopards had an easy win 122-102. Lasan Kromah nailed 29 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!) for the winning side. Zach Lofton came up with 31 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for Taipei TM in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Leopards have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Taiwan Beer L. maintains first place with 5-0 record. Loser Taipei TM dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with Lioneers. Taiwan Beer L. will again meet Taipei TM (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Taipei TM's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Taipei Kings.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 5: bottom-ranked Lioneers smashed Kings 108-89. Kings won against Kaohsiung A. 111-94. N.Taipei CTBC lost to undefeated Taiwan Beer L. 78-85.

Dreamers - Lioneers 82-81

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when seventh ranked Lioneers (2-2) crushed 6th ranked Kings (3-4) 108-89 on Saturday. Lioneers made 19-of-20 free shots (95.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Kings turnovers. Lioneers looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American players dominated the game. Craig Sword (190-1994, college: MSU) nailed 32 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winning side and power forward Drew Pember (211-2000, college: UNC Asheville) accounted for 26 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Forward Jayden Gardner (201-2000, college: Virginia, agency: MSG) came up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 15 rebounds and guard Chaundee Brown Jr (195-1998, college: Michigan) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Kings in the defeat. An interesting game for Leopards (5-0) which played against 4th placed Taipei TM (2-2). Leader Leopards had an easy win 122-102. Taiwan Beer L. made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. Taiwan Beer L. had a 34-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. Palestinian power forward Sani Sakakini (204-1988) nailed 36 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and Kai-Yan Lee accounted for 26 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Haitian center Cady Lalanne (208-1992, college: UMass) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds and the former international Long-Mao Hu (195-1992, college: Chaminade) added 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for Kaohsiung A. in the defeat. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Aquas' coach let to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Dreamers. Kaohsiung A. lost their fourth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with six games lost.
