WSBL Round 4 (Regular Season): Taiyuan T. lose their first game against Cathay Life

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Taiyuan Textile (11-1) against second ranked Cathay Life on Sunday night. Cathay Life were defeated by Cathay Life 80-69. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Cathay Life looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Cathay Life made 8 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Yu-Chun Chen (176-1987) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and American power forward Sidney Cooks (193-1998, college: Seton Hall) who added 16 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side international center Tieh Lin (182-1999) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains second position with 7-5 record having four points less than leader Taiyuan T. Taiyuan T. at the other side still keeps top place with one game lost.

A very close game was the one between Taipower and Chunghwa Telecom. Fourth ranked Taipower (2-10) got a very close victory over one of their biggest challengers Chunghwa Telecom (4-8). Taipower managed to escape with a 2-point win 63-61 on Sunday evening. Wei-Lin Wanga fired a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Hui-Ju Liu produced 15 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Chunghwa Telecom's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Taipower maintains fourth position with 2-10 record. Loser Chunghwa Telecom keeps the third place with eight games lost.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 4: Chunghua T. lost to Taiyuan T. 59-67. Bottom-ranked Taipower unfortunately lost to Taiyuan T. 62-76. Cathay Life recorded a loss to Chunghua T. 57-70.
