T1 League Round 24: GhostHawks defeat leader Aquas- April 24, 2022

Taoyuan L. - TB Herobears 135-134 Important game to mention about was the one when fifth ranked Leopards (6-19) saved a 1-point victory edging 3rd ranked TB Herobears (15-12) 135-134 on Saturday evening. Leopards made 19-of-20 charity shots (95.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 TB Herobears turnovers. Strangely TB Herobears outrebounded Leopards 57-34 including a 21-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard John Gillon (183-1994, college: Syracuse) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 30 points and 14 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and the other American import Troy Williams (201-1994, college: Indiana, agency: MSG) who added 30 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was American power forward Diamond Stone (210-1997, college: Maryland) with a double-double by scoring 50 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds and Maltese center Samuel Deguara (230-1991) produced a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 25 rebounds (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field). Five Leopards and four TB Herobears players scored in double figures. TB Herobears' coach Chih-hao Yang rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Leopards maintains fifth position with 6-19 record. TB Herobears at the other side keep the third place with 12 games lost. They share the position with N.Taipei CTBC. Leopards will play against league's leader Aquas in Kaohsiung in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. TB Herobears will play at home against the league's leader Aquas and it may be a tough game between close rivals. GhostHawks were defeated by sixth ranked GhostHawks (6-22) 91-76. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Aquas. GhostHawks dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Aquas' 30. They outrebounded Aquas 64-50 including a 45-34 advantage in defensive rebounds. 26 personal fouls committed by Aquas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for the former international power forward Will Artino (211-1992, college: Creighton) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 25 rebounds and 9 assists. Guard Chi-Erh Lu (176-1992) contributed with 21 points for the winners. Four GhostHawks players scored in double figures. American-Filipino guard Jason Brickman (183-1991, college: LIU Brooklyn, agency: Interperformances) replied with 29 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and American Xavier Alexander (198-1988, college: S.Nazarene) added 10 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Aquas. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. GhostHawks maintains sixth position with 6-22 record. Aquas at the other side still keep top place with seven games lost. GhostHawks are looking forward to face higher ranked TB Herobears (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Aquas will play against TB Herobears and are hoping to win this game. N.Taipei CTBC dominated down low during the game scoring 88 of its points in the paint compared to Leopards' 52. N.Taipei CTBC forced 19 Leopards turnovers and outrebounded them 53-32 including a 39-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. N.Taipei CTBC looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American players dominated the game. The winners were led by Marlon Johnson (208-1994, college: NMHU) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 30 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Avery Scharer (185-1986, college: Shoreline CC) supported him with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists. Scharer is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. N.Taipei CTBC's coach Yi-hua Lee used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 30 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists by Troy Williams (201-1994, college: Indiana, agency: MSG) did not help to save the game for Leopards. Forward Elijah Thomas (206-1996, college: Clemson, agency: MSG) added 24 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. N.Taipei CTBC moved-up to third place, which they share with TB Herobears. Loser Leopards keep the fifth position with 19 games lost. N.Taipei CTBC will meet league's second-placed Suns in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Leopards will play against the league's leader Aquas and hope to secure a win. Even a double-double of 30 points and 12 rebounds by the former international power forward Will Artino (211-1992, college: Creighton) did not help to save the game for GhostHawks. Costa Rican-Belizean Charles Garcia (208-1988, college: Seattle) added 25 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Suns and five GhostHawks players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Suns have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 18-9 record having four points less than leader Kaohsiung A. Loser GhostHawks stay dead last with 22 lost games. Suns will meet N.Taipei CTBC (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. GhostHawks will play against TB Herobears and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
