Al Ittihad inks Russ Smith

Al Ittihad Ahli of Aleppo (SBL) agreed terms with experienced 34-year old American point guard Russ Smith (183cm-75kg-1991, college: Louisville) for upcoming 2025-26 season. Smith played this summer at The Ville (The Basketball Tournament) in the U.S. In two TBT games just recently he had 4.0ppg, 1.0rpg and 1.0apg. He ended 24-25 season at Tabiat (Superleague) in Iranian league. Smith helped them to make it to the Iranian League final after they ended regular season as second best team. But the most of that year he spent at HDL Nardo in Italian Serie A2 where in 16 games he recorded very impressive stats: 23.4ppg, 3.0rpg, 1.9apg and 1.0spg. 2024-25 was a great season as he was named to Eurobasket.com All-Italian Serie A2 Honorable Mention and League Player of the Week (2 times).
In 2014 he was drafted by Philadelphia 76ers (NBA) in second round (47th overall). He graduated from University of Louisville and it will be his twelfth (!!!) season in pro basketball.
Smith is quite experienced player. He has played in six different countries on four different continents (Europe, Asia, Latin America and of course North America). Smith has played previously professionally in China (Blue Whales, Sturgeons, Guizhou and Hainan Haixiang), Israel (Hapoel Beer Sheva), Puerto Rico (Cariduros), Turkey (Galatasaray), NBA (Memphis Grizzlies) and NBA G League (Noblesville Boom, Iowa Wolves and Delaware Blue Coats). His team won Big East Tournament in 2012 and 2013.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others he was voted Eurobasket.com All-Italian Serie A2 Guard of the Year in 2023.
