SBL Round 5 (Regular Season): Al Hurriyeh hands first loss to Al Wahda

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Al Wahda (4-1) in Aleppo on Sunday night. Visitors were edged by fourth ranked Al Hurriyeh (3-1) 64-61. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Al Wahda. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Al Hurriyeh have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Al Ittihad. Defending champion Al Wahda still keeps top position with one game lost. Al Hurriyeh is looking forward to face Al Jaish (#7) in Damascus in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Al Wahda will play on the road against Al Jalaa (#6) in Aleppo and is hoping to win this game.
Bottom-ranked Al Wathba is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their fifth consecutive match to fifth ranked Al Nawaeer (3-2) 80-65. Al Nawaeer moved-up to fourth place. Al Wathba at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. Al Nawaeer will play against Al Jaish (#7) in Damascus in the next round. Al Wathba will play at home against Al Jalaa and hopes to get finally their first victory.
The game in Damascus was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Al Ittihad (3-1) played at the court of 7th ranked Al Jaish (1-4). Al Ittihad managed to secure a 8-point victory 76-68 on Saturday. Al Ittihad moved-up to second place, which they share with Al Hurriyeh. Loser Al Jaish keeps the seventh position with four games lost. Al Ittihad will meet at home Al Karameh (#5) in the next round. Al Jaish will play against Al Nawaeer in Hama and hope to win that game.

In the last game of round 5 Al Karameh beat Al Jalaa on the road 82-69.




Al Jalaa - Al Karameh 69-82

There was a small surprise when sixth ranked Al Karameh (2-2) beat 4th placed Al Jalaa (2-2) in Aleppo 82-69 on Thursday. Al Karameh moved-up to fifth place, which they share with defeated Al Jalaa. Al Karameh will meet higher ranked Al Ittihad (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Al Jalaa will play against the league's leader Al Wahda and hope to secure a win.

Al Nawaeer - Al Wathba 80-65

Bottom-ranked Al Wathba is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their fifth consecutive match to fifth ranked Al Nawaeer (3-2) 80-65. Al Nawaeer moved-up to fourth place.
