LG Sakers are the new KBL champions-May 17, 2025
LG Sakers have won 2024/25 KBL title. They outscored Seoul Knights 62-58 on the road in the decisive seventh game of the championship series tonight. Il-Young Heo (197-F-1985) came up with 14 points points to lead the winners. LG Sakers eked out a 27-23 halftime lead. Seoul Knights pulled within 3 points at the final intermission. But LG Sakers poured in 21 points in the fourth frame to ice the victory. Tamayo Carl (200-F-2001) finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the visitors. Hyung-Bin Kim (202-C-2000) and Warney Jameel (203-C-1994, college: Stony Brook) posted 11 apiece for the Knights.

The standout Egyptian center Assem Marei was honored as the Player of the Year of the championship-winning Changwon LG Sakers. He graduated from the Minnesota State Mankato ten years ago. Jameel Warney, 31-year old American center from the Seoul SK Knights, was named to the First Team of Korean Basketball League. He is Stony Brook alumni from 2016. Warney collected multiple other honors, earned a spot in the Imports Team and Defensive Team. His best performance made his team reach the finals but they unfortunately were defeated by the LG Sakers 3 to 4. Warney's masterful distribution skills earned him the second spot in rebounds per game with an impressive average of 12. He led the KBL in points per game with over 22. Warney has totalled 40 games of 20 or more points on the year and notched 30 or more points in 9 games. He recorded double-doubles in 51 games at the event. Warney's 42 points against Wonju DB were the most he scored in the 24 25 season. The best players in the league are US college alumni. Just on the list of the top 10 best scorers we have 9 out of 10 players, who had college careers. Among many awards he was selected to the Asia-Basket All-Korean KBL Player of the Year between 2020 and 2022. Gaige Prim, American forward from the Hyundai Mobis Phoebus, was voted to the First Team at the Korean Basketball League. He is ex the Missouri State from 2022. Prim received multiple other awards, was selected to the Imports Team and Defensive Team. He averaged over 17 points and almost 7 rebounds per game in the league. Prim has totalled 22 games of 20 or more points and registered double-doubles in 13 games on the year. His 31 points against Anyang were the most he scored in the 24 25 season.
