NBL Round 6 (Regular Season): Hornets beat Tagawa in the most crucial game of the week

An exciting game between Top Four teams was when Top-ranked Hornets faced one of their biggest challengers Tagawa. Hornets (5-0) defeated Tagawa (4-2) 70-65. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Tagawa. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Kelvin Lim (191-1996) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Malaysian center Russell Low-Wen (200-1993) chipped in 14 points. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international forward Shi-Yu Ng (197-2000) who recorded a double-double by scoring 27 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Undefeated Hornets have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 5-0 record behind leader Adroit. Tagawa at the other side keeps the third place with two games lost. Hornets will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tagawa will play against SBA and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
SBA can celebrate finally their first win this season after four consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in , where they defeated Tungsan (0-4) 80-67. It was a good game for Wei Long Wong who led his team to a victory with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Emil Putra contributed with 13 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Tan Kian Branson replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for Tungsan. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. SBA (1-4) left bottom position moving up to eighth place, which they share with Tong Whye. It was Tungsan's fourth loss in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. SBA will play against higher ranked Tagawa (#3) in Singapore in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Tungsan will play at home against the league's leader Adroit (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
Undefeated leader Adroit delivered the sixth consecutive victory on Sunday night. This time they crushed 7th ranked Tong Whye (1-4) 73-46 in Singapore. Hanbin Ng had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners. The best for the losing side was Firdaus Anuar with 8 points and 9 rebounds. Tong Whye's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Undefeated Adroit (6-0) have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with a perfect record of 6 victories in a row. Tong Whye lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with four games lost. They share the position with SBA. Adroit will meet bottom-ranked Tungsan (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Tong Whye will play against Tungsan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 6 winless Tungsan was defeated by Chong Ghee 63-57. Hornets smashed SG Bball 90-56.



Chong Ghee - Tungsan 63-57

The game between closely ranked teams ended with bottom-ranked Tungsan's (0-4) loss to eighth ranked Chong Ghee (2-4) 57-63 on Saturday. Jay-Shay Lin had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Karl Phua chipped in 13 points and 15 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Michael Kankam with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds and the former international Zhen Sim (-1998) scored 13 points and 7 rebounds. Tungsan's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Chong Ghee moved-up to sixth place. Loser Tungsan still closes the standings with four games lost. Chong Ghee will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tungsan will play against the league's leader Adroit (#1) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

No shocking result in a game when top-ranked Hornets (5-0) smashed 5th ranked SG Bball (2-2) 90-56 on Saturday. Hornets outrebounded SG Bball 51-27 including a 41-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Malaysian Ding-Loon Tay (185-1994) scored 26 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Malaysian center Russell Low-Wen (200-1993) chipped in 15 points and 12 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) during the contest. Four Hornets players scored in double figures. Hornets' coach felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was Shi-Yang Ng with 15 points and 6 rebounds and the former international power forward Shengyu Lim (192-1990) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Hornets have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 5-0 record behind leader Adroit. Loser SG Bball keeps the fifth place with two games lost.
