NBL Round 19 (Regular Season): SBA edges Xin Hua by two points

The Regular Season in NBL is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 4 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 19 in the NBL took place in Singapore. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 5th ranked Xin Hua (9-8) to seventh ranked SBA (8-9) 73-71 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Xin Hua. Haran Prem fired 16 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Wei Shern Ooi chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. The former international point guard John-Jing Ng (190-1994) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. SBA moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Tong Whye. Xin Hua at the other side keeps the fifth position with eight games lost. SBA is looking forward to face Tungsan (#10) in the next round. Xin Hua's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Singapore Hornets.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Singapore: Tagawa (#3) and Tong Whye (#6). Tong Whye was crushed at home by 32 points 40-72 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Worth to mention a great performance of international forward Shi-Yu Ng (197-2000) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points and 13 rebounds. Reece Low contributed with 14 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. The former international center Yeong-Wooi Khaw (200-1990) answered with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds for Tong Whye. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tagawa maintains third place with 12-6 record having six points less than leader Hornets. Tong Whye lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with nine games lost. They share it with SBA. Tagawa's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Singapore Adroit.
Undefeated leader Hornets delivered the eighteenth consecutive victory on Wednesday night. This time they beat 12th ranked Police (3-15) 73-61 in Singapore. It was a great evening for Royston Goh-Yong who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side Wei How Chua responded with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Undefeated Hornets (18-0) have an impressive series of eighteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with a perfect record of 18 victories in a row. Newly promoted Police stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Hornets' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Singapore to the arena Xin Hua.

Other games of round 19 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Siglap crushed Tungsan in Singapore 102-82. Adroit smashed Nanyang at home 78-58. SG Bball lost to Chong Ghee on the opponent's court 80-85.

Xin Hua - SBA 71-73

The most exciting game of round 19 in the NBL took place in Singapore. Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Singapore: Tagawa (#3) and Tong Whye (#6). Undefeated leader Hornets delivered the eighteenth consecutive victory on Wednesday night. This time they beat 12th ranked Police (3-15) 73-61 in Singapore. Hornets dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Police's 32. Hornets looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Hornets made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for Royston Goh-Yong who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Jun Hao Mah helped adding 17 points and 10 rebounds. At the losing side Wei How Chua responded with 11 points and 9 rebounds and Emgeeyar Gopal scored 10 points and 8 rebounds. Hornets (18-0) have an impressive series of eighteen victories in a row. There was no surprise when 10th ranked Tungsan (4-14) was crushed at home by eighth ranked Siglap (7-10) 102-82 on Wednesday. Siglap outrebounded Tungsan 53-35 including 21 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for international guard Xavier Ng Jun (188-2000) who led his team to a victory scoring 26 points and 9 rebounds. The former international guard Gavin Tay (188-1999) helped adding 13 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Five Siglap players scored in double figures. At the losing side Michael Kankam responded with 21 points and 9 rebounds and Prasant Selvakumar scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Siglap maintains eighth place with 7-10 record. Newly promoted Tungsan keeps the tenth position with 14 games lost. Siglap will meet Nanyang (#11) in the next round. Tungsan will play against SBA and hope to secure a win.

No shocking result in a game in Singapore where second ranked Adroit (16-1) smashed 11th ranked Nanyang (3-14) 78-58 on Thursday. Adroit forced 24 Nanyang turnovers. It was a great evening for the former international guard Zhen-Qiang Zhou (177-1993) who led his team to a victory scoring 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international point guard Zhong-Han Wong (183-1997) helped adding 16 points. At the losing side Jun Lim responded with 15 points and 7 rebounds and Ying Lee scored 10 points. Five Adroit and four Nanyang players scored in double figures. The victory was the tenth consecutive win for Adroit. Defending champion maintains second place with 16-1 record having just three points less than leader Hornets. Nanyang lost their eighth game in a row. Very expected game when 9th ranked SG Bball (5-12) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Chong Ghee (11-6) 85-80 on Thursday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Chong Ghee dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to SG Bball's 34. It was a great evening for Alpha McKevin who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 16 rebounds. International guard Justen Chiam (177-2002) helped adding 15 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Chong Ghee's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side the former international power forward Shengyu Lim (192-1990) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and Jonathan Hai scored 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Chong Ghee maintains fourth place with 11-6 record. Loser SG Bball keeps the ninth position with 12 games lost. Chong Ghee will meet Tong Whye (#6) in the next round. SG Bball will play against Police and hope to secure a win.
