NBL Round 15 (Regular Season): Tagawa edge SG Bball by three points

The Regular Season in NBL is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 3 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Eighth-ranked SG Bball (4-10) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked Tagawa (9-5) on Wednesday. The visitors from Singapore managed to secure only three-point victory 72-69. However their fans expected much easier game. The best player for the winners was international forward Shi-Yu Ng (197-2000) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds. Forward Yung-Juen Teo (191-2003) chipped in 13 points and 14 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international power forward Shengyu Lim (192-1990) who recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Tagawa have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 9-5 record. SG Bball at the other side dropped to the ninth position with ten games lost. Tagawa's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Singapore Tong Whye.
Undefeated leader Hornets delivered the fourteenth consecutive victory. This time they beat 5th ranked SBA (7-7) 72-63 in Singapore. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of SBA. It was a good game for Malaysian center Russell Low-Wen (200-1993) who led his team to a victory with 25 points and 9 rebounds. Kelvin Lim contributed with 13 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Wei Long Wong answered with 14 points and 5 assists for SBA. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Hornets (14-0) have an impressive series of fourteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with a perfect record of 14 victories in a row. SBA at the other side dropped to the seventh position with seven games lost. Hornets will again play against SBA (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. SBA will play against SG Bball and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The best for the losing side was Tan Bryant with 16 points and 9 rebounds. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Adroit. Defending champion maintains second place with 13-1 record behind leader Hornets. Newly promoted Tungsan stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last game of round 15 Tong Whye defeated Nanyang in Singapore 82-66.




Tungsan - Adroit 57-89

The game with biggest result difference took place in . Local Tungsan (2-12) was outscored by second ranked Adroit (13-1) 89-57 on Tuesday night. Adroit dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Tungsan's 26. They outrebounded Tungsan 52-37 including 37 on the defensive glass. Adroit looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Worth to mention a quality performance of the former international swingman Hanbin Ng (193-1989) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points and 12 rebounds. Center Herman Hoe Chan (190-1997) helped adding 16 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was Tan Bryant with 16 points and 9 rebounds and Denilson Caijun scored 9 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Adroit. Defending champion maintains second place with 13-1 record behind leader Hornets. Newly promoted Tungsan stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Undefeated leader Hornets delivered the fourteenth consecutive victory. This time they beat 5th ranked SBA (7-7) 72-63 in Singapore. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of SBA. Nanyang - Tong Whye 66-82

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Nanyang (3-11) was defeated at home by sixth ranked Tong Whye (8-6) 82-66 on Wednesday. Tong Whye outrebounded Nanyang 55-29 including a 21-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for Sashi Pillay who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Lavin Raj V (201-2000) helped adding 16 points and 7 rebounds. Five Tong Whye players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Aik Chua-Cheong with 11 points and 8 rebounds and Jun Lim scored 12 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Tong Whye moved-up to fifth place. Nanyang lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the tenth position with 11 games lost. Tong Whye will meet higher ranked Chong Ghee (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Nanyang will have a break next round.
