NBL Round 10 (Regular Season): Derby game ends with Xin Hua's defeat of Tong Whye

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Singapore: Xin Hua (#6) and Tong Whye (#3). Xin Hua (5-4) smashed visiting Tong Whye (6-3) by 24 points 89-65. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Tong Whye. Xin Hua dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Tong Whye's 28. Worth to mention a great performance of Xing Yuan Han who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds. International guard Terry Lua (191-1997) contributed with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. International forward Lavin Raj V (201-2000) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds for Tong Whye. Xin Hua moved-up to fifth place, which they share with SG Bball. Tong Whye at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. They share it with Siglap. Xin Hua is looking forward to face SBA (#8) in the next round. Tong Whye will play against Zebra (#12) and is hoping to win this game.
An interesting game for Hornets (8-1) which played road game in against 4th ranked SG Bball (5-4). Second ranked Hornets managed to get a 10-point victory 70-60. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of SG Bball. The former international guard Kelvin Lim (191-1996) had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 17 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Loon Tay-Ding chipped in 13 points during the contest. At the losing side Jun-Hao Lee responded with 14 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hornets have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 8-1 record behind leader Adroit. SG Bball at the other side dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. They share the position with Xin Hua. Hornets' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Singapore SAF.
Another interesting game was again a derby between two local teams from Singapore: Siglap (#4) and SAF (#11). Siglap (6-3) smashed visiting SAF (1-8) by 24 points 94-70. Delvin Goh notched a triple-double by scoring 11 points, 22 rebounds and 11 assists to lead the effort. Even 20 points by Jie Ming Teo did not help to save the game for SAF. Siglap moved-up to third place, which they share with Tong Whye. SAF lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with eight games lost. Siglap will meet Nanyang (#9) in the next round where they are favorite. SAF's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Singapore to the arena Hornets.

In the last two games of round 10 Tagawa was beaten by SBA on the road 72-54. Chong Ghee won against Nanyang on its own court 61-47.




SBA - Tagawa 72-54

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked SBA and 10th ranked Tagawa had identical 2-5 record. This time SBA used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Singapore 72-54 on Saturday night. SBA outrebounded Tagawa 50-34 including a 35-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Leslie Chen notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and 16 rebounds to lead the effort and Haran Prem supported him with 18 points. Even a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds by international forward Shi-Yu Ng (197-2000) did not help to save the game for Tagawa. Feng Ng Zhao added 13 points for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. SBA (3-5) moved-up to eighth place. Loser Tagawa keeps the tenth position with six games lost. SBA will meet higher ranked Xin Hua (#6) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Tagawa will play against the league's leader Adroit (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.

Chong Ghee - Nanyang 61-47

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 8th ranked Nanyang's (3-6) road loss to seventh ranked Chong Ghee (5-5) 47-61 on Saturday. Chong Ghee held Nanyang to an opponent 21.4 percent shooting from the field compared to 31.5 percent accuracy of the winners. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Chong Ghee made 8 blocks. Yuan Lim Jun notched 19 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and Jun-Wei Leow supported him with 20 points. Even a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds by international guard Benjamin Lim (184-1997) did not help to save the game for Nanyang. Aik Chua-Cheong added 10 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Newly promoted Chong Ghee maintains seventh position with 5-5 record. Nanyang lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with six games lost. Chong Ghee will meet at home higher ranked SG Bball (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Nanyang will play against Siglap (#3) and hope to secure a win.

An interesting game for Hornets (8-1) which played road game in against 4th ranked SG Bball (5-4). Second ranked Hornets managed to get a 10-point victory 70-60. The former international guard Kelvin Lim (191-1996) had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 17 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Malaysian Loon Tay-Ding (185-1994) chipped in 13 points during the contest. At the losing side Jun-Hao Lee responded with 14 points and Ron-teh Kaiyuan scored 11 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Siglap outrebounded SAF 53-35 including a 40-28 advantage in defensive rebounds. Siglap looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The former international forward Delvin Goh (201-1995) notched a triple-double by scoring 11 points, 22 rebounds and 11 assists to lead the effort and Fang-Cie Lim supported him with 24 points and 6 rebounds. Even 20 points by Jie Ming Teo did not help to save the game for SAF. Jeryl Neo added 7 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for lost side.
