NBL Round 9 (Regular Season): Derby game ends with Hornets' defeat of Siglap

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Singapore: Hornets (#2) and Siglap (#4). Hornets (8-1) won against visiting Siglap (5-3) 66-59. Hornets had a 40-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Hornets made 9 blocks. It was a good game for the former international guard Kelvin Lim (191-1996) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 20 rebounds. Jun Hao Mah contributed with 12 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Vignesh Rengarajan (186-1998) answered with 22 points and 7 rebounds for Siglap. Hornets have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 8-1 record behind leader Adroit. Siglap at the other side keeps the fourth position with three games lost. Hornets are looking forward to face SG Bball (#5) in the next round. Siglap's supporters also look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Singapore SAF.
The game between fourth ranked SG Bball (5-4) and 9th ranked SBA (3-5) in ended with biggest points difference. SG Bball beat guests from 77-59. Shengyu Lim stepped up and scored 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and Bin Putra chipped in 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was Jia Rong Koh with 8 points and 9 rebounds. SG Bball have a solid series of three victories in a row. Despite that victory SG Bball went down to fifth position due to points difference, which they share with Xin Hua. Newly promoted SBA dropped to the eighth place with five games lost. SG Bball will play against league's second-placed Hornets in Singapore in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. SBA will play at home against Tagawa (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 9 Chong Ghee was beaten by Siglap on the road 91-76. SG Bball won against Nanyang on its own court 63-48.




SG Bball - SBA 77-59

The game between fourth ranked SG Bball (5-4) and 9th ranked SBA (3-5) in ended with biggest points difference. SG Bball beat guests from 77-59. Shengyu Lim stepped up and scored 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and Bin Putra chipped in 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Four SG Bball players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Jia Rong Koh with 8 points and 9 rebounds and Leslie Chen scored 9 points and 6 rebounds. SG Bball have a solid series of three victories in a row. Despite that victory SG Bball went down to fifth position due to points difference, which they share with Xin Hua. Newly promoted SBA dropped to the eighth place with five games lost. Siglap - Chong Ghee 91-76

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Siglap (5-3) beat 7th ranked Chong Ghee (5-5) in Singapore 91-76. Siglap dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Chong Ghee's 26. They outrebounded Chong Ghee 46-29 including 32 on the defensive glass. Siglap players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. The former international forward Delvin Goh (201-1995) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 17 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and the former international guard Vignesh Rengarajan (186-1998) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds. Four Siglap players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Yuan Lim Jun with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Jun-Wei Leow scored 19 points and 4 assists. Chong Ghee's coach rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Siglap maintains fourth place with 5-3 record. Newly promoted Chong Ghee keeps the seventh position with five games lost. Siglap's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Singapore SAF.

Very expected game when 8th ranked Nanyang (3-6) lost on the road to fourth ranked SG Bball (5-4) 63-48. SG Bball held Nanyang to an opponent 24.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 35.6 percent accuracy of the winners. SG Bball brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Bin Putra stepped up and scored 17 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners and Caraig Bico chipped in 9 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was international guard Benjamin Lim (184-1997) with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and Aik Chua-Cheong scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. SG Bball have a solid series of three victories in a row. Despite that victory SG Bball went down to fifth position due to points difference, which they share with Xin Hua. Nanyang lost their third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with six games lost. SG Bball will play against league's second-placed Hornets in Singapore in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Nanyang will play against Chong Ghee (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
