NBL Round 8 (Regular Season): No surprise as #1 Adroit defeat Xin Hua

NBL top team - Adroit (9-0) added another victory to their record on Sunday. This time they beat fifth ranked Xin Hua (4-4) 69-62. Worth to mention a quality performance of international Qing-Huang Toh (183-1995) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and the former international point guard Zhong-Han Wong (183-1997) who added 17 points and 4 assists during the contest. Adroit's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zao Liang Chia responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Undefeated Adroit have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 9-0 record. Xin Hua lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with four games lost. They share the position with Chong Ghee. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Bottom-ranked Zebra (0-8) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their eighth consecutive match to seventh ranked Chong Ghee (4-4) 94-61. The winners were led by international guard Justen Chiam (177-2002) who had that evening a triple-double by scoring 21 points, 17 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 steals and Phua-Karl Dahlen supported him with 9 points and 17 rebounds. Even 17 points and 6 rebounds by the former international guard Gavin Tay (188-1999) did not help to save the game for Zebra. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Chong Ghee moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Xin Hua. Zebra at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with eight games lost. Chong Ghee will play against higher ranked Siglap (#4) in Singapore in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Zebra will have a break next round.

The best player for the winners was Marco Kok who scored 23 points and 7 rebounds. Benjamin Lim produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Tong Whye have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 6-2 record having four points less than leader Adroit. Loser Nanyang dropped to the eighth place with four games lost. Tong Whye's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Singapore to the arena .

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 8: Siglap lost to SG Bball on the opponent's court 71-80. SBA lost to defending champion Hornets in a home game 73-77. SAF was rolled over Tagawa on the road 53-73.




Nanyang - Tong Whye 47-72

The game in supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked Tong Whye (6-2) played at the court of 6th ranked Nanyang (3-4). Tong Whye smashed Nanyang 72-47 on Sunday. Tong Whye held Nanyang to an opponent 24.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 34.2 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Nanyang 54-43 including 16 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was Marco Kok who scored 23 points and 7 rebounds. Sashi Pillay chipped in 1 points and 22 rebounds. International guard Benjamin Lim (184-1997) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds and Pei Zong Goh added 7 points respectively for the hosts. There was an upset when higher ranked Siglap (4-2) was defeated on the road by ninth ranked SG Bball (3-3) 80-71 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was Caraig Bico who scored 24 points and 7 rebounds. Shengyu Lim chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds. Four SG Bball players scored in double figures. The former international forward Delvin Goh (201-1995) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists and the former international guard Vignesh Rengarajan (186-1998) added 22 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. SG Bball moved-up to seventh place. Loser Siglap keeps the fourth position with two games lost. SG Bball will meet at home Nanyang (#8) in the next round. Very predictable result when third ranked Hornets (6-1) defeated on the road 9th ranked SBA (2-4) 77-73 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Kelvin Lim (191-1996) who scored 22 points and 9 rebounds. Jun Hao Mah chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. Leslie Chen produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds and the former international guard Wei-Long Wong (187-1988) added 10 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Newly promoted SBA keeps the ninth position with four games lost. Hornets' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Singapore Siglap.

The best player for the winners was Harihaaran Parathy who scored 25 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. International forward Shi-Yu Ng (197-2000) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. Xuan Xian Kerk produced 12 points and 7 rebounds and Jeryl Neo added 2 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Tagawa maintains tenth position with 2-5 record. SAF lost fifth consecutive game.
