NBL Round 9: Xin Hua beat Siglap in a derby game

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Singapore: Xin Hua (#4) and Siglap (#3). Xin Hua (7-2) won against visiting Siglap (6-3) 76-70. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Siglap. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The best player for the winners was Isaac Low who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds. The former international point guard Mitchell Folkoff (180-1989) chipped in 13 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was Vignesh Rengarajan who recorded 20 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Xin Hua moved-up to second place, which they share with Hornets. Defending champion Siglap dropped to the fourth position with three games lost.

The best for the losing side was Benjamin Lim with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Adroit. They maintain first place with 9-0 record. Newly promoted Nanyang keeps the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with SAF.

Other games of round 9 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Nanyang defeated Tagawa in a road game 44-42. SAF smashed GBA Hoops at home 101-64. Tong Whye lost to SG Bball on the opponent's court 62-69.

Hornets - Adroit 79-90

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Singapore. Leader Adroit faced second-best Hornets. Guests from (9-0) defeated host Hornets (7-2) 90-79. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hornets. It was a good game for Hua-Sen Liew Larry (-1993) who led his team to a victory with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Han Wong-Zhong contributed with 20 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. There was no surprise in Singapore where bottom-ranked Tagawa (0-9) was edged by seventh ranked Nanyang (3-6) 44-42 on Wednesday. Nanyang held Tagawa to an opponent 21.1 percent shooting from the field compared to 22.1 percent accuracy of the winners. Aik Chua-Cheong stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and guard Benjamin Lim (184-1997) chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Minghui Pan with 8 points and 5 rebounds and Andrew Zee-Kin scored 7 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Nanyang maintains seventh place with 3-6 record, which they share with SAF. Tagawa lost their ninth game in a row. They still close the standings with nine games lost.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with eighth ranked SAF's (3-6) home victory over 9th ranked GBA Hoops (1-8) 101-64 on Thursday. SAF dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to GBA Hoops' 34. They outrebounded GBA Hoops 54-36 including a 37-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. International center Lavin Raj V (200-2000) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 19 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners and Haran Prem chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. Five SAF players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Espinosa Haribon with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and Haur Chng-Yaw scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. GBA Hoops' coach gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. SAF moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Nanyang. GBA Hoops lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keep the ninth position with eight games lost.

Han Wong-Zhong stepped up and scored 20 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and center Naqib Borhan (187-1998) chipped in 11 points and 11 rebounds. Four Adroit players scored in double figures. Adroit's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was guard Benjamin Lim (184-1997) with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds and Aik Chua-Cheong scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. This time SG Bball used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Singapore 69-62 on Friday night. SG Bball forced 20 Tong Whye turnovers. Remus Low stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and Shengyu Lim chipped in 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was Wooi Khaw-Yeong with 9 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists and Zhen Zhen-Yu scored 20 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. SG Bball maintains fifth place with 5-4 record. Loser Tong Whye keeps the sixth position with five games lost.
