NBL Round 7: Derby game ends with Siglap's defeat of SAF

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Singapore: Siglap (#4) and SAF (#8). Siglap (5-2) won against visiting SAF (1-6) 65-56. Siglap forced 23 SAF turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of Chiang Goh-Kok who helped to win the game recording 9 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Lim Shawn Fang contributed with 17 points and 5 steals for the winners. International center Lavin Raj V (200-2000) answered with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds for SAF. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Siglap have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains fourth place with 5-2 record. SAF lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with six games lost. They share it with GBA Hoops. Siglap are looking forward to face SG Bball (#5) in the next round. SAF will play against Nanyang and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
NBL top team - Adroit (6-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed sixth ranked Tong Whye (3-4) 98-76. It was a great evening for Han Wong-Zhong who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds. Herman Chan helped adding 12 points and 14 rebounds. At the losing side Zhen Zhen-Yu responded with 22 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Adroit have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 6-0 record. Tong Whye at the other side keeps the sixth position with four games lost. Adroit will play against bottom-ranked Tagawa (#10) in Singapore in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Tong Whye will play against GBA Hoops (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 7 SG Bball beat GBA Hoops on the road 70-62. Nanyang were destroyed by Xin Hua on its own court 37-85.
The most impressive performance of 7th round was 23 points and 5 rebounds by Yun Seet-Zhi of Xin Hua.

Hornets - Tagawa 94-49

Bottom-ranked Tagawa is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their seventh consecutive match to second ranked Hornets (6-1) 94-49 on Wednesday evening. Hornets dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Tagawa's 16. They outrebounded Tagawa 59-21 including a 44-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Hornets made 7 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for Kelvin Lim-Hong who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds. Loon Tay-Ding (185-1994) accounted for 23 points for the winning side. Four Hornets players scored in double figures. Jie Hiew-Zi came up with 21 points and Andrew Zee-Kin added 11 points respectively for Tagawa in the defeat. No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked SG Bball (4-3) beat on the road 8th ranked GBA Hoops (1-6) 70-62 on Thursday. They outrebounded GBA Hoops 54-42 including 16 on the offensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for Yang Ng-Shi who led the winners and scored 27 points and 6 rebounds (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). Fatt Ngow-Jia accounted for 11 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Espinosa Haribon came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds and Jordan Lee-Jun added 3 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for GBA Hoops in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. SG Bball maintains fifth place with 4-3 record. Newly promoted GBA Hoops keep the eighth position with six games lost. They share it with SAF. SG Bball will meet at home higher ranked Siglap (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. GBA Hoops will play against Tong Whye (#6) in Singapore and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Very expected game when 7th ranked Nanyang (2-4) was smashed at home by third ranked Xin Hua (6-1) 85-37 on Friday. Xin Hua held Nanyang to an opponent 15.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 50.0 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Nanyang 55-39 including a 45-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for Yun Seet-Zhi who led the winners and scored 23 points and 5 rebounds. Liang Chia-Zao accounted for 9 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Guard Benjamin Lim (184-1997) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and Lim Ming Jun added 9 points respectively for Nanyang in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Xin Hua. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Hornets. Newly promoted Nanyang keeps the seventh position with four games lost. Xin Hua's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Singapore Hornets.
