Al Gharafa (D1) has signed the experienced 35-year-old American guard Italee Lucas, who also holds an Angolan passport. She is the second foreign player on the team, with Lebanese Aida Bakhos having signed earlier. Lucas most recently played for Ghaz Al-Shamal in the Iraqi 1 League, and previously played for Inter-Clube in Angolan D1, where she averaged 13.0ppg, 3.0rpg, 6.3apg, and 1.0spg in three games last season. She also had a brief stint with Qurain in the Kuwaiti league.
In 2011, she was drafted by the Tulsa Shock (WNBA) in the second round (21st overall).
She graduated from the University of North Carolina and it will be her 13th (hopefully lucky) season in pro basketball. She has been regularly called to the Angolan Senior National Team since 2017.
She is a very experienced player, having played in seven different countries on four different continents (Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America). She has played professionally in Hungary (Miskolc), Israel (Hertzliya), Kuwait, Romania (Satu Mare), Spain (Hondarribia-Irun, IDK Euskotren, and Girona), and Egypt (Al Ahly and Heliopolis).
