The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Doha: El Jaysh (#1) and Al Gharafa (#2). El Jaysh (18-0) won against visiting Al Gharafa (16-2) 74-65 and celebrated the League title. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Al Gharafa. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 35-24 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Al Gharafa helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American power forward Vernon Macklin (208-86, college: Florida) who led his team to a victory with 38 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). point guard Fadi-Hani Abilmoni (184) contributed with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry) replied with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds for Al Gharafa. Undefeated El Jaysh have an impressive 14-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 18-0 record. Al Gharafa at the other side keeps the second place with two games lost. Al Sadd moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Qatar Club. Al Ahli at the other side keeps the seventh position with 12 games lost. The game between 10th ranked Al Khor (2-16) and fourth ranked Al Arabi (12-6) in Al Khor on Wednesday ended with biggest points difference. Guests from Doha beat Al Khor 80-62. Manny Adako notched a double-double by scoring 23 points, 17 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the effort. Even a double-double of 31 points and 18 rebounds by Dairese Gary did not help to save the game for Al Khor. Al Arabi moved-up to third place, which they share with Al Rayyan. Al Khor lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost.

Gharafa celebrated the Qatari Basketball Cup title. They outgunned Rayyan in the Final. Michael Taylor (186-G-86, college: Iowa St.) posted 43 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the winners. Gharafa sank 35 points in the first period to take a 12-point lead. Rayyan narrowed the gap in the second term. They pulled within 4 points at the interval 53:49. Rayyan dropped 27 points in the third term. They got as close as 2 points at the final intermission. But Gharafa ignited a 26:15 run in the fourth period and raced to the win. Sammy Monroe (198-F-85, college: Newberry) netted 22 points, while Hassino Ndoye (92) added 11 points for the winners. Abdelrahman Abdelhaleem (205-F-96) replied with 26 points and 8 rebounds for Rayyan. Tanguy Ngombo (197-F-84) had 16 points in the loss.
Al Gharafa won the 2017 Emir Cup in Qatar. In the Final game they outscored El Jaish 92-82. Trailing 19-23 at the end of the first period, Al Gharafa reduced to 1 point at the halftime. Moreover they dominated the second half and posted two victories respectively. Al Gharafa won the third period 22-17 and closed the game with a 27-21 run. Sammy Monroe (198-F-85, college: Newberry) top-scored for the winners with 41 points and Michael Taylor (186-G-86, college: Iowa St.) notched 19. Hassino Ndoye (92) posted 12, whilst Malek Salem Abdulla had 10. Dominic James (180-PG-86, college: Marquette) replied with 34 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in a loss. Fadi Hani Abilmona scored 17 and Ali Saeed Erfan (198-PF-83) added 12.
