PBA Round 8 (Regular Season): No surprise as #1 SM Beermen defeat FiberXers

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

PBA top team - SM Beermen (6-0) managed to deliver another win on Friday. This time they beat twelfth ranked FiberXers (0-8) in Makati 112-103. SM Beermen had a 44-33 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when SM Beermen made 7 blocks. 25 personal fouls committed by FiberXers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a quality performance of guard Jaymar Perez (188-1993) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds and center June Mar Fajardo (210-1989) who added 14 points, 17 rebounds and 4 blocks during the contest. Guard Alec Stockton (188-1998) responded with 36 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated SM Beermen have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 6-0 record. FiberXers at the other side still closes the standings with eight games lost. SM Beermen are looking forward to face North Port (#6) in Pasig City in the next round where they are favorite. FiberXers will play on the road against Meralco Bolts (#9) in Manila and hope to get finally their first victory.
The game in Manila was also worth to mention about. 4th ranked North Port (4-4) played at the court of sixth ranked Rain or Shine (5-4). Rain or Shine defeated North Port 115-105. The winners were led by Beau Belga (198-1986) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists and Jhonard Clarito supported him with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Even 29 points and 7 rebounds by American forward Zavier Lucero (198, college: Cal Maritime) did not help to save the game for North Port. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Rain or Shine have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. North Port lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with TNT Tropang. Rain or Shine will play against Hotshots (#5) in Pasig City in the next round. North Port will play on the road against the league's leader SM Beermen in Manila and hopes to get back on the winning track.

In the last two games of round 8 Blackwater lost to Hotshots on the opponent's court 77-81. Ginebra Kings managed to outperform TNT Tropang in a home game 87-83.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 20 points and 10 rebounds by Japeth Aguilar of Ginebra Kings.



Rain or Shine - North Port 115-105

The game in Manila was also worth to mention about. 4th ranked North Port (4-4) played at the court of sixth ranked Rain or Shine (5-4). Rain or Shine defeated North Port 115-105. Rain or Shine made 23-of-30 charity shots (76.7 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. North Port was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by Beau Belga (198-1986) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists and guard Jhonard Clarito (188-1996) supported him with 17 points and 7 rebounds. The game between closely ranked teams ended with 9th ranked Blackwater's (3-5) road loss to eighth ranked Hotshots (4-2) 77-81. Hotshots made 26-of-32 charity shots (81.3 percent) during the game. Hotshots outrebounded Blackwater 45-32 including 34 on the defensive glass. Blackwater was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by point guard Andy Barroca (176-1988) who scored that evening 19 points and 5 rebounds and naturalized American forward Calvin Abueva (190-1988) supported him with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Even 20 points and 6 assists by forward Jeth Troy Rosario (201-1992) did not help to save the game for Blackwater. Naturalized Canadian forward James Kwekuteye (191-1998) added 23 points and 4 assists for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Hotshots have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. Blackwater lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth position with five games lost. Hotshots will play against higher ranked Rain or Shine (#4) in Manila in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Blackwater will have a break next round.

Rather predictable result in Manila where third ranked Ginebra Kings (6-3) defeated 6th ranked TNT Tropang (4-4) 87-83. Ginebra Kings outrebounded TNT Tropang 59-40 including a 21-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Ginebra Kings players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. TNT Tropang was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by naturalized German forward Christian Standhardinger (206-1989, college: Hawaii) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Scottie Thompson (188-1993) supported him with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Even 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists by Roger Ray Pogoy (189-1992) did not help to save the game for TNT Tropang.
