PBA Round 16: Hotshots rally past SM Beermen

The Regular Season in PBA is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 3 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Hotshots as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Hotshots defeated 9th ranked SM Beermen in Pasig City 85-80. Hotshots forced 19 SM Beermen turnovers and outrebounded them 58-32 including a 20-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Serbian-American forward Nick Rakocevic (211-1997, college: USC, agency: Pensack Sports) fired a double-double by scoring 26 points and 28 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Ian Paul Sangalang (201-1991) chipped in 12 points and 14 rebounds. American power forward Devon Scott (206-1994, college: Dayton) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Hotshots have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Defending champion SM Beermen dropped to the tenth place with five games lost. SM Beermen will play next round against Phoenix trying to get back on the winning streak. Hotshots will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Bay Area D. in Hong Kong.
Terrafirma Dyip can celebrate finally their first win this season after nine consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Makati City, where they defeated NLEX RW (3-7) 124-114. Worth to mention a great performance of British V.Islands-Indonesian center Lester Prosper (210-1988, college: Old Westbury, agency: YoungGroup Unlimited) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 50 points (!!!), 19 rebounds and 5 assists. Juan Tiongson contributed with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. American Earl Clark (208-1988, college: Louisville) replied with a double-double by scoring 45 points (!!!) and 18 rebounds for NLEX RW. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Terrafirma Dyip maintains thirteenth position with 1-9 record. It was NLEX RW's fifth loss in a row. They keep the eleventh place with seven games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Manila. Local Ginebra Kings (6-2) beat 12th ranked Blackwater Elite (3-8) 98-84 on Friday night. Worth to mention a quality performance of Scottie Thompson who helped to win the game recording 16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). At the losing side Cameron Krutwig responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Ginebra Kings have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 6-2 record. Blackwater Elite lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth place with eight games lost. Ginebra Kings will meet TNT Tropang (#8) in the next round. Blackwater Elite will have a break next round.

In the last game of round 16 Meralco Bolts defeated TNT Tropang in Manila 97-91.



TNT Tropang - Meralco Bolts 91-97

There was a minor upset in Makati where 7th ranked TNT Tropang (4-5) was defeated by tenth ranked Meralco Bolts (4-5) 97-91 on Wednesday. Meralco Bolts dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to TNT Tropang's 36. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman KJ McDaniels (198-1993, college: Clemson) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Aaron Black who added 17 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. At the losing side American forward Cameron Oliver (203-1996, college: Nevada) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 20 rebounds and 5 blocks and point guard Jayson Castro William (180-1986) scored 19 points and 7 assists (made all of his nine free throws !!!). Five Meralco Bolts and four TNT Tropang players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Meralco Bolts have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with defeated TNT Tropang. Meralco Bolts will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. TNT Tropang will play against Ginebra Kings (#4) and hope to secure a win.

Terrafirma Dyip can celebrate finally their first win this season after nine consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Makati City, where they defeated NLEX RW (3-7) 124-114. Terrafirma Dyip made 18-of-22 charity shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Terrafirma Dyip outrebounded NLEX RW 60-48 including a 46-31 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists.
