PBA Round 15: Bay Area D. keep a leadership position

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Bay Area D. as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Bay Area D. smashed 11th ranked NLEX RW in Hong Kong 118-98. They outrebounded NLEX RW 54-42 including a 45-34 advantage in defensive rebounds. Bay Area D. looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by NLEX RW helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for American guard Myles Powell (188-1997, college: Seton Hall) who led his team to a victory scoring 36 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Australian guard Hayden Blankley (198, college: WT) helped adding 13 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was American Earl Clark (208-1988, college: Louisville) with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with FiberXers. NLEX RW lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with six games lost. NLEX RW will play next round against Terrafirma Dyip trying to get back on the winning streak. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will face at home their local rival from Makati City - Terrafirma Dyip. Bay Area D. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.

However their fans expected much easier game. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Quincy Miller-Scott (206-1992, college: Baylor, agency: Slash Sports) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 20 rebounds and 5 assists. Jeron Alvin Teng accounted for 20 points. American forward Ryan Pearson (198-1990, college: GMU, agency: Inception Sports) came up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds for Rain or Shine in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. FiberXers have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Bay Area D. Rain or Shine at the other side keeps the eighth place with six games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

North Port - Terrafirma Dyip 91-85

Bottom-ranked Terrafirma Dyip (0-9) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their ninth consecutive match to eighth ranked North Port (5-5) 91-85 on Saturday evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when North Port made 7 blocks. Rather expected game in Quezon where 5th ranked Phoenix (5-5) was defeated by third ranked Hotshots (7-1) 90-80 on Saturday. Hotshots forced 21 Phoenix turnovers and outrebounded them 54-38 including 39 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was Serbian-American forward Nick Rakocevic (211-1997, college: USC, agency: Pensack Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 18 rebounds. Naturalized American forward Calvin Abueva (190-1988) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Hotshots players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized American forward Sean Anthony (193-1986) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and American power forward Kaleb Wesson (208-1999, college: Ohio St.) added 9 points and 18 rebounds respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Hotshots maintains third place with 7-1 record behind leader Bay Area D. Loser Phoenix keeps the fifth position with five games lost. They share it with North Port. Hotshots will meet at home SM Beermen (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
