PBA Round 12: Bay Area D. is defeated by Meralco Bolts

What a coincidence that all visitors won their games. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Bay Area D. (6-2) in Hong Kong on Friday night. Hosts were edged by twelfth ranked Meralco Bolts (2-5) 92-89. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Bay Area D.. Meralco Bolts dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Bay Area D.'s 34 and made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Bay Area D. 53-42 including a 20-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by Bay Area D. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman K.J. McDaniels (198-1993, college: Clemson) who helped to win the game recording 31 points and 8 rebounds and center Raymond Almazan (206-1989) who added 14 points and 16 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Canadian Andrew Nicholson (206-1989, college: St.Bonaventure) with a double-double by scoring 50 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Meralco Bolts maintains twelfth position with 2-5 record. Newly promoted Bay Area D. still keeps top place with two games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

The winners were led by American power forward Kaleb Wesson (208-1999, college: Ohio St.) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 23 points and 17 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and Encho Serrano supported him with 16 points. Even a double-double of 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists by American forward Cameron Oliver (203-1996, college: Nevada) did not help to save the game for TNT Tropang. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Phoenix have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. TNT Tropang at the other side dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. Phoenix will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. TNT Tropang will play on the road against Terrafirma Dyip (#13) in Makati City and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Rain or Shine managed to escape with a 1-point win 76-75 on Friday evening. The best player for the winners was Steve Taylor Jr who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 16 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was William Navarro who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Rain or Shine moved-up to sixth place. North Port lost third consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with five games lost. They share it with Blackwater Elite. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last game of round 12 FiberXers won against Blackwater Elite on the opponent's court 77-71.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 22 points, 19 rebounds and 4 blocks by Quincy Miller-Scott of FiberXers.



TNT Tropang - Phoenix 88-91

Important game to mention about took place in Makati. Fifth ranked Phoenix (5-3) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 8th ranked TNT Tropang (3-4) 91-88 on Sunday evening. Phoenix forced 19 TNT Tropang turnovers and outrebounded them 51-40 including 16 on the offensive glass. TNT Tropang was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Very expected game in Caloocan City where 9th ranked Blackwater Elite (3-5) was defeated by fourth ranked FiberXers (5-2) 77-71 on Sunday. FiberXers dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Blackwater Elite's 34. They outrebounded Blackwater Elite 72-47 including a 28-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American forward Quincy Miller-Scott (206-1992, college: Baylor, agency: Slash Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 19 rebounds and 4 blocks. Alec Stockton chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Cameron Krutwig (206-1998, college: Loyola, IL) who recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists and Renato Ular added 13 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Four Blackwater Elite players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. FiberXers have a solid four-game winning streak.
