PBA Round 9: TNT Tropang lose to NLEX RW in the biggest upset of the week- October 21, 2022
What a coincidence that all visitors won their games. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
Meralco Bolts - Phoenix 82-89 Rather expected game in Manila where 12th ranked Meralco Bolts (1-4) were defeated by ninth ranked Phoenix (3-3) 89-82. Phoenix made 17-of-22 charity shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Meralco Bolts turnovers. Meralco Bolts were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American power forward Kaleb Wesson (208-1999, college: Ohio St.) nailed a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side and Javee Mocon (193-1995) accounted for 10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Five Phoenix players scored in double figures. American power forward Johnny O'Bryant III (207-1993, college: LSU, agency: Slash Sports) came up with 7 points, 16 rebounds and 9 assists and Kier Quinto (188-1995) added 22 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Meralco Bolts in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Phoenix have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with North Port and Blackwater Elite. Meralco Bolts at the other side keep the twelfth position with four games lost. Phoenix will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Meralco Bolts' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Manila to the arena Rain or Shine. It ended the two-game winning streak of TNT Tropang. Strangely TNT Tropang outrebounded NLEX RW 62-44 including a 25-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. 26 personal fouls committed by TNT Tropang helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American Earl Clark (208-1988, college: Louisville) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 45 points (!!!), 16 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners and point guard Kevin Alas (183-1991) chipped in 24 points. The best for the losing side was American forward Cameron Oliver (203-1996, college: Nevada) with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 22 rebounds and 5 assists and Roger Ray Pogoy (189-1992) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. NLEX RW moved-up to third place, which they share with FiberXers. TNT Tropang at the other side dropped to the eighth position with two games lost. They share it with Ginebra Kings. NLEX RW is looking forward to face SM Beermen (#11) in Manila in the next round and are hoping to win another game. TNT Tropang will play on the road against Blackwater Elite in Caloocan City and is hoping to win this game. Canadian Andrew Nicholson (206-1989, college: St.Bonaventure) nailed a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds for the winning side and Chinese forward Jianhua Song (196-1991) accounted for 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Bay Area D. players scored in double figures. British V.Islands-Indonesian center Lester Prosper (210-1988, college: Old Westbury, agency: YoungGroup Unlimited) came up with 18 points and 7 rebounds and guard Juan Tiongson (178-1991) added 21 points respectively for Terrafirma Dyip in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Bay Area D. (6-1) keeps a position of league leader. Terrafirma Dyip at the other side still closes the standings with six games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest. American forward Quincy Miller-Scott (206-1992, college: Baylor) nailed a double-double by scoring 24 points, 16 rebounds and 9 blocks for the winning side and guard Aljun Melecio accounted for 18 points and 7 assists. Five FiberXers players scored in double figures. Guard Jaymar Perez (188-1993) came up with 29 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and American power forward Devon Scott (206-1994, college: Dayton) added 16 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for SM Beermen in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. FiberXers moved-up to third place, which they share with NLEX RW. Defending champion SM Beermen keeps the eleventh position with three games lost. FiberXers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. SM Beermen will play on the road against NLEX RW (#4) in Makati City to get more than just one victory in their record.
