PBA Round 4: FiberXers lose to Hotshots

It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in PBA, but even now we can clearly see the differece between stronger teams and outsiders. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

FiberXers (1-1) recorded its first loss in Makati on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by top-ranked Hotshots (2-0) 109-105. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Hotshots made 32-of-38 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. 31 personal fouls committed by FiberXers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Serbian-American forward Nick Rakocevic (211-1997, college: USC, agency: Pensack Sports) fired a double-double by scoring 21 points and 24 rebounds for the winners. point guard Jiovani Jalalon (175-1992) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. American forward Quincy Miller-Scott (206-1992, college: Baylor) produced a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Hotshots moved-up to second place, which they share with NLEX RW. FiberXers at the other side dropped to the sixth position with one game lost. They share it with Ginebra Kings. Hotshots is looking forward to face TNT Tropang (#10) in Makati in the next round and are hoping to win another game. FiberXers will play on the road against the league's leader Bay Area D. (#1) in Hong Kong and are hoping to win this game.
Ginebra Kings can celebrate their first win this season after one consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Manila, where they defeated Meralco Bolts (0-2) 99-91. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Justin Brownlee (197-1988, college: St.John's) who helped to win the game recording 34 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Scottie Thompson contributed with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. American power forward Johnny O'Bryant III (207-1993, college: LSU, agency: Slash Sports) replied with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists for Meralco Bolts. Meralco Bolts' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Ginebra Kings (1-1) left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with FiberXers. Meralco Bolts at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. Ginebra Kings will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Meralco Bolts will play on the road against Terrafirma Dyip (#13) in Makati City and hope to get finally their first victory.

At the losing side Kaleb Wesson responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 18 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Bay Area D. have a solid three-game winning streak. Newly promoted Bay Area D. maintains first position with 3-0 record. Loser Phoenix still closes the standings with three games lost. They share the position with Terrafirma Dyip. Bay Area D. will meet at home FiberXers (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Phoenix will have a break next round.

In the last game of round 4 winless Terrafirma Dyip was defeated by Rain or Shine in Manila 106-94.



Phoenix - Bay Area D. 91-101

Worth to mention a quality performance of American guard Myles Powell (188-1997, college: Seton Hall) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 32 points and 10 rebounds and Hong Kong center Duncan Reid (206-1989) who added 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side American power forward Kaleb Wesson (208-1999, college: Ohio St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 18 rebounds and Javee Mocon (193-1995) scored 22 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rain or Shine - Terrafirma Dyip 106-94

There was no surprise in Manila where bottom-ranked Terrafirma Dyip (0-3) was defeated by sixth ranked Rain or Shine (2-1) 106-94 on Sunday. Rain or Shine made 32-of-41 free shots (78.0 percent) during the game. Rain or Shine outrebounded Terrafirma Dyip 56-44 including 44 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Steve Taylor Jr (206-1993, college: Toledo) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 24 rebounds and guard Gian Mamuyac (180-1999) who added 17 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!) during the contest. At the losing side British V.Islands-Indonesian center Lester Prosper (210-1988, college: Old Westbury, agency: YoungGroup Unlimited) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 16 rebounds and naturalized American guard Alex Cabagnot (183-1982, college: Hawaii-Hilo) scored 14 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Rain or Shine moved-up to fourth place, which they share with North Port. Loser Terrafirma Dyip still closes the standings with three games lost. They share the position with Phoenix. Rain or Shine will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Terrafirma Dyip will play against Meralco Bolts (#11) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

Ginebra Kings can celebrate their first win this season after one consecutive losses. Meralco Bolts were plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Justin Brownlee (197-1988, college: St.John's) who helped to win the game recording 34 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Scottie Thompson (188-1993) contributed with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. Brownlee is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American power forward Johnny O'Bryant III (207-1993, college: LSU, agency: Slash Sports) replied with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Aaron Black added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists in the effort for Meralco Bolts. Five Ginebra Kings and four Meralco Bolts players scored in double figures. Meralco Bolts' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.
