Terrafirma Dyip - Phoenix 74-97 Phoenix can celebrate their first win this season after two consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Makati City, where they outplayed Terrafirma Dyip (0-3) 97-74 on Friday. Phoenix forced 19 Terrafirma Dyip turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Naturalized American forward Jason Perkins (193-1992, college: VCSU) stepped up and scored 17 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and naturalized Canadian guard Matthew Wright (193-1991, college: St.Bonaventure) chipped in 11 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals. Four Phoenix players scored in double figures. Power forward Joseph Gabayni (196-1994) responded with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Juan Tiongson (178-1991) scored 9 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Phoenix (1-2) left bottom position moving up to eighth place, which they share with Rain or Shine. It was Terrafirma Dyip's third loss in a row. They still close the standings with three games lost. Phoenix will meet at home Rain or Shine (#9) in the next round. Terrafirma Dyip will play against FiberXers in Makati and hopes to get finally their first victory. SM Beermen defeated 8th ranked Hotshots in Manila 87-81. SM Beermen looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when SM Beermen made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was guard Jaymar Perez (188-1993) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Naturalized Tongan center Moala Tautuaa (200-1989, college: Chadron St.) chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds. Five SM Beermen players scored in double figures. Blackwater Elite made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by North Port's players. Point guard Jayvee Casio (178-1986) stepped up and scored 22 points and 5 assists for the winners and American guard Rashawn McCarthy (185-1989, college: Old Westbury) chipped in 9 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. Four Blackwater Elite players scored in double figures. Guard Robert Bolick (185-1995) responded with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Jamie Malonzo produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Blackwater Elite moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Meralco Bolts and NLEX RW. Loser North Port dropped to the seventh position with two games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
