Regular Season Round 5: SM Beermen - Hotshots 87-81

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked SM Beermen as it allowed them to take a leadership position. SM Beermen defeated 8th ranked Hotshots in Manila 87-81. SM Beermen looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when SM Beermen made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was guard Jaymar Perez (188-1993) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Naturalized Tongan center Moala Tautuaa (200-1989, college: Chadron St.) chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds. Five SM Beermen players scored in double figures. Point guard Andy Barroca (176-1988) produced 25 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and power forward Ian Paul Sangalang (201-1991) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. SM Beermen have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Hotshots at the other side dropped to the tenth place with three games lost. They share the position with FiberXers. Hotshots will play next round against strong Ginebra Kings trying to get back on the winning streak. SM Beermen will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
