PBA Round 3 (Philippines Cup): North Port keep a leadership position

There were just three rounds played in Regular Season of PBA and we can clearly see which teams will fight for top positions and which will try to avoid bottom places. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

North Port defeated Terrafirma Dyip in Pasig City 100-86. North Port looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for guard Robert Bolick (185-1995) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists. Forward Jamie Malonzo contributed with 19 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Naturalized American guard Joshua Munzon (191-1995, college: CS Los Angeles) answered with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for Terrafirma Dyip. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Terrafirma Dyip will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. North Port will try to continue on its current victory against Hotshots. It will be extra interesting game as Hotshots is their local rival from Pasig City.
Blackwater Elite (1-1) recorded a loss in Caloocan City. Hosts were edged by Ginebra Kings (1-0) 85-82. It was a great evening for guard Scottie Thompson (188-1993) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 16 rebounds and 9 assists. Christian Standhardinger helped adding 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was center Yousef Taha (201-1988, college: North Lake CC) with 9 points and 13 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Ginebra Kings' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Manila Rain or Shine.
A very close game took place in Makati between TNT Tropang and FiberXers. TNT Tropang (2-1) got a very close home victory over FiberXers (1-2). TNT Tropang managed to escape with a 3-point win 86-83 on Sunday evening. It was an exceptional evening for Jeth Troy Rosario who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds. Maverick Ahanmisi came up with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for FiberXers in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. TNT Tropang will meet NLEX RW (#7) in the next round. FiberXers will play against Meralco Bolts in Manila and hope to win that game.

In the last game of round 3 Phoenix lost to Meralco Bolts on the road 98-109.

Naturalized American guard Joshua Munzon (191-1995, college: CS Los Angeles) answered with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Juan Tiongson (178-1991) added 24 points and 4 assists in the effort for Terrafirma Dyip. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Terrafirma Dyip will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. North Port will try to continue on its current victory against Hotshots. It will be extra interesting game as Hotshots is their local rival from Pasig City.

Meralco Bolts - Phoenix 109-98

The game between closely ranked teams ended with Meralco Bolts' (1-0) home victory over Phoenix (0-2) in Manila 109-98 on Saturday. Meralco Bolts looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for guard Chris Newsome (187-1990, college: Georgetown, KY) who led the winners and scored 21 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Forward Aaron Black accounted for 19 points for the winning side. Naturalized American forward Jason Perkins (193-1992, college: VCSU) came up with 28 points and 5 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and naturalized Canadian guard Matthew Wright (193-1991, college: St.Bonaventure) added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Phoenix in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Meralco Bolts will meet at home FiberXers (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Phoenix will have a break next round.

TNT Tropang - FiberXers 86-83

A very close game took place in Makati between TNT Tropang and FiberXers. TNT Tropang (2-1) got a very close home victory over FiberXers (1-2). TNT Tropang managed to escape with a 3-point win 86-83 on Sunday evening. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. TNT Tropang will meet NLEX RW (#7) in the next round. FiberXers will play against Meralco Bolts in Manila and hope to win that game.
