PBA Round 5 (Governors Cup): First victory of Meralco Bolts

Meralco Bolts' fans can celebrate the first win of their team.They used home court advantage to defeat TNT Ka Tropa (1-2) 83-80 on Wednesday. Meralco Bolts looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. 28 personal fouls committed by TNT Ka Tropa helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Panamanian forward Tony Bishop (201-89, college: Texas St., agency: 011 Sports) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds. Guard Chris Newsome (187-90, college: Georgetown, KY) contributed with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Roger Ray Pogoy (189-92) answered with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds for TNT Ka Tropa. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. It was the only win of host team this round and in all other games visitors recorded victories. Meralco Bolts (1-0) left bottom position moving up to eighth place. Defending champion TNT Ka Tropa dropped to the ninth position with two games lost. Meralco Bolts will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. TNT Ka Tropa will play at home against Rain or Shine (#6) and is hoping to win this game.
Bottom-ranked Blackwater Elite is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fifth consecutive match to fifth ranked Alaska Aces (3-2) 98-75. Guard Maverick Ahanmisi (188-91, college: Minnesota) stepped up and scored 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and Jeron Alvin Teng chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Eduardo Daquioag (180-91) responded with 12 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Alaska Aces moved-up to third place. Blackwater Elite at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost.



Blackwater Elite - Alaska Aces 75-98

Bottom-ranked Blackwater Elite is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fifth consecutive match to fifth ranked Alaska Aces (3-2) 98-75. Alaska Aces dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Blackwater Elite's 30 and made 30-of-37 charity shots (81.1 percent) during the game, while Blackwater Elite only scored twelve points from the stripe. They outrebounded Blackwater Elite 60-29 including a 20-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Blackwater Elite was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Maverick Ahanmisi (188-91, college: Minnesota) stepped up and scored 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and guard Jeron Alvin Teng (190-94) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. Four Alaska Aces players scored in double figures. Guard Eduardo Daquioag (180-91) responded with 12 points and 4 assists and American guard Rashawn McCarthy (185-89, college: Old Westbury) scored 16 points.
