THE Jumbo Plastic-Basilan Peace Riders thoroughly dominated the KCS Computer Specialist-Mandaue, 94-67, in Game One to take a 1-0 lead in the 2021 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup best-of-five Southern Finals on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at the Pagadian City Gymnasium. Basilan imposed their will early on, leading by 13, 24-11, after the first. KCS tried to make noise and pulled to within seven, 28-35, but Basilan finished the first half with a 9-3 run to head to halftime with a 44-31 lead. Even though his team was already up by double-digits, Basilan head coach Jerson Cabiltes was far from satisfied with his wards' performance. The Peace Riders quickly unloaded a 16-3 run at the start of the third to build a huge 26-point lead, 60-34, with 6:15 left in that stretch. Jong Baloria's free-throw then gave the Mindanao kings their biggest lead of the game at 36, 86-50. Mindanao Leg Finals MVP Chris Bitoon continued his fine play, scoring 19 points to go with three assists, and two steals. Baloria added 13 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Michael Mabulac fired in 11 points and six rebounds. Michael Juico, Philip Manalang, and Bobby Balucanag each had 10 points. Steve Castro was the lone bright spot for KCS with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field, to go with five rebounds and two assists. New addition Miguel Gastador added 11 points. Basilan will go for a commanding 2-0 lead on Thursday at 6 p.m. KCS, on the other hand, will try to make adjustments to equalize the series.
