#PBA2015 Govs Cup Finals: San Miguel sweeps Alaska
all the way to the title! - Jul 17, 2015
The San Miguel eermen completed a series sweep
of the Alaska Aces and copped the 2015 PBA Govs' Cup crown after winning in Game
4, 91-81.
Game recap (adapted from Interaksyon):
SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over ALASKA ACES, 91-81
The San Miguel Beermen completed a four-game sweep of Alaska after a 91-81 win
in Game Four that clinched the franchise's 21st championship on Friday at the
SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Arizona Reid scored 33 points, while back-to-back PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo
dominated for 19 points and 21 rebounds as they led the Beermen to a 4-0 sweep
of the PBA Governors' Cup finals.
Marcio Lassiter added 12 points, while Gabby Espinas provided a boost off the
bench with 8 markers.
It was the second championship for San Miguel in the PBA's 40th season. They
also ruled the Philippine Cup after a seven-game series with the same Alaska
side that they faced in these Finals.
San Miguel actually fell behind by double-figures in the first half but
dominated the latter two periods to complete the sweep of Alaska, which finished
the elimination round as the No. 1 team.
The Aces, as promised, put up a fight in the first half with Calvin Abueva
leading the way. 'The Beast' was huge in the first half, tallying 11 points and
13 rebounds over the first two periods alone. Alaska import Romeo Travis,
meanwhile, nearly matched the prolific AZ Reid, scoring 11 points, only two less
than Reid's total of 13 at the break.
But Reid came out of the dugout red-hot, dominating the third quarter with his
stellar offensive play. He scored 16 points in the quarter, including four
three-pointers, as he nearly outdueled the entire Alaska team single-handedly.
The Beermen outscored the Aces, 33-16, in the one-sided third period.
They didn't stop the rampage, though, and opened the final period on an 11-0
run, six of them coming from Fajardo and three coming on Reid's sixth triple of
the game.
That gave San Miguel a whopping 16-point lead, 81-65, marking a remarkable
30-point turnaround from the last seven seconds of the first half.
Abueva tried to ensure that Alaska would at least go down swinging, but it was
too little, too late for the Aces.
Abueva's 22 points and 17 rebounds paces Alaska, while Romeo Travis added 15
points and Sonny Thoss tossed in a baker's dozen.
Line of the Game: June Mar Fajardo (SMB) - 19pts, 21rebs, 3stls, 2blks,

#PBA2015 Commish Cup Finals Game 7 Roundup
- Apr 29, 2015
It was the most memorable Game 7 in recent
PBA history, but only one team could win and carry the trophy. That team was
the Talk N Text Tropang Texters.
Game recap (adapted from Interkasyon):
TALK N TEXT TROPANG TEXTERS over RAIN OR SHINE ELASTO-PAINTERS, 121-119
(2 OT0
The Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters had to weather a big Rain or Shine comeback
and two overtime periods but made the plays it needed the most to win an
historic Game Seven classic, 121-119, and clinch the PBA Commissioner's Cup
title on Wednesday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
It was the 7th championship in Talk 'N Text's franchise history. The game
was also the first ever double-overtime Game Seven in the history of the
PBA.
Ranidel De Ocampo scored a career-high 34 points, import Ivan Johnson had 30
points and 11 rebounds, while Best Player of the Conference Jayson Castro
barely missed a triple-double with 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 12 assists.
De Ocampo came up huge in the second overtime, where he scored the first
eight points of his team. He drove to the basket and banked in a shot to
open scoring before following it up with a three-pointer, 111-106.
Chris Tiu made two free throws but De Ocampo stuck another three-pointer to
give the Tropang Texters a 114-108 as well as set his new career-best
scoring mark.
Gabe Norwood and Paul Lee made some big shots for Rain or Shine but Talk 'N
Text had answers from Harvey Carey and Johnson.
Lee knocked down a three from the corner to bring his team back to within
one, 119-118, but Larry Fonacier knocked down free throws on the other end.
Back in the fourth quarter, Rain or Shine came on strong. A basket from
Chism and three-pointers from Jonathan Uyloan and Chris Tiu cut their
deficit to a single point, 84-83, inside the last five minutes of the game.
But Castro knocked down clutch back-to-back triples to make it a seven-point
game, a lead Talk 'N Text would maintain until the two-minute mark.
But Chism would make some big plays, scoring all eight of Rain or Shine's
points in the endgame. He hit two threes, including one that tied the game
at 97-apiece with 26.2 remaining.
Chis finished with 19 fourth quarter points to keep Rain or Shine's hopes
for the title alive.
Castro and Tiu each had a chance to win the game for their teams but could
not get it done in regulation.
A triple and two free throws from Chism in the extra period gave Rain or
Shine a 104-101 lead, but Talk 'N Text battled back on a huge step-back
three from Johnson and two charities from Larry Fonacier.
But Lee again tied the game inside the final minute of overtime after
receiving a drop pass from Tiu and getting the hoop, 106-106.
Johnson drove hard to try to give the Tropang Texters the lead but his
attempt was blocked by both Jireh Ibanes and Chism.
This is yet another bridesmaid finish for Rain or Shine, but they have
nothing to be ashamed of. They played as hard as anybody could have gotten
the title 'if not for a few breaks.
Line of the Game: Wayne Chism (ROS) - 34pts, 29rebs, 2stls, 1ast,
1blk, 4 triples, 12/20 FGs.

#PBA2015 Philippine Cup Finals Roundup: January 21, 2015 - Jan 21, 2015
It was the San Miguel Beermen's turn to rally in the endgame, roaring back from a 6-point deficit in the final 4 minutes of Game 7 in the 2014-2015 PBA Philippine Cup Finals, to win their first All-Filipino crown since 2001.
Game recap (adapted from InterAKTV):
SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over ALASKA ACES, 80-78 The powerhouse San Miguel Beermen, led by their MVP duo of June Mar Fajardo and Arwind Santos, won their 1st championship in an All-Filipino conference in 14 years after defeating Alaska, 80-78, in a thrilling Game Seven of the PBA Philippine Cup finals on Wednesday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Fajardo and Santos, the MVPs of the last two PBA seasons, both came up big for San Miguel in the all-important do-or-die game.
Fajardo had 21 points and 25 rebounds, while Santos had 22 points, 12 boards, 3 steals, and 4 blocks for the newly-crowned champion Beermen.
It was the 6-foot-10 center who dominated the early goings of the contest while the lanky veteran forward made the big shots down the stretch as they survived another big charge from the never-say-die Aces.
Alaska trailed by as many as 23 points in the first half, but the Aces came all the way back to lead by six points in the fourth quarter. It was San Miguel showing their heart in the end, though, as they made the big plays that eventually decided the series.
San Miguel, which had at time struggled to get their reigning MVP quality touches in the series, had no such trouble in the first half. The big man scored early in the opening period after an impressive euro step on his way to the basket.
The dominating Fajardo already had 15 points and 12 rebounds at the halfway point of the game.
Alaska, however, would not lay down and allow San Miguel to just romp their way to the title. Led by Calvin Abueva, they unleashed a 32-14 third quarter as they trimmed the lead down to just three points, 62-59, heading into the final period.
Abueva scored eight of Alaska's first 10 points as he sparked a 10-2 run for the Aces. He scored a total of 13 points in the third, but he got some help from his teammates, particularly Sonny Thoss, who had some strong finishes in the paint despite getting fouled.
The fourth quarter was a tough, physical affair that went back and forth early before Alaska again had a big run.
With the Aces down by five points, Thoss scored on a floater on a pick and roll with JVee Casio before Abueva attacked the hoop to earn a trip to the free throw line, knocking down one of his two attempts.
Abueva then made a crucial play, finding a streaking Ping Exciminiano with a long pitch from the backcourt for two points in transition that finally drew Alaska even with San Miguel at 68-all. They then took the lead for the first time since the first quarter after Baguio finished on another fastbreak opportunity for the Aces.
Abueva scored on back-to-back baskets to cap an 11-0 run that gave the Aces a 74-68 lead with 4:21 to play.
San Miguel, though, showed their heart as they countered with a rally of their own.
Fajardo hit a pair of free throws and Chris Lutz scored in transition as they closed back to within two points, 74-72.
Santos then came up big for the Beermen, hitting a booming three-pointer that put them back on top at 79-78 with 43.7 seconds left. On defense, he came up with the board on a miss from a driving Thoss and went to the line on the other, knocking down to free throws that made it 80-78 with 18.9 seconds remaining.
Abueva missed two attempts on the other end, first on a floater, and another on a tip-in.
Ronald Tubid grabbed the rebound, but he gave Alaska some glimmer of hope after calling for a timeout his team no longer had. Alaska sharpshooter Dondon Hontiveros missed the resulting technical free throw, though, as San Miguel kept a two-point lead with five seconds left.
Abueva was able to force a jumpball on Fajardo and even won the tip but Casio missed a potential game-winner at the buzzer.
Line of the Game & Finals MVP: Arwind Santos - 22pts, 12rebs, 4blks, 3stls, and 4 triples.
