Shakir Smith (ex Aktobe) is a newcomer at Al Bashaer

Defending champion Al Bashaer (D1) strengthened their roster with addition of 32-year old American point guard Shakir Smith (185cm-73kg-1992, college: ASU). He was best passer at Aktobe in Kazakhstan National League last season where in 37 games he recorded very impressive stats: 17.3ppg, 3.2rpg, 6.3apg (top 3) and 1.8spg. He helped them to make it to the semifinals. A very spectacular season in his career as he was voted to Asia-Basket.com All-Kazakhstan League Honorable Mention and League Player of the Week (2 times).
Smith is quite experienced player. He has played also professionally in Bulgaria (Akademik Plovdiv), Iceland (IR Reykjavik), Portugal (Sporting), Spain (Cantabria), Sweden (Norrkoping) and North Macedonia (Blokotehna).
Among many awards his team won Portuguese Hugo dos Santos Cup in 2022. Smith received Eurobasket.com All-Balkan League Player of the Year award and Eurobasket.com All-Balkan League Import Player of the Year award back in 2020.
He graduated from Adams State University in 2016 and it will be his ninth season as a professional player. Smith played for other colleges like: Pima Community College, University of Wyoming.
