BAHRAIN trounced Oman 123-53 last night to register their second successive lopsided victory in the Gulf Basketball Association (GBA) Qualifier for the 2020 Fiba U18 Asian Championship. Just as they did in their opening-day win, the hosts dominated from the first tip-off. They took a 36-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and never wavered. The Bahrainis were once again spearheaded by the dynamic duo of Mustafa Hussain and Muzamil Ameer, who combined for 54 points. Elsewhere yesterday, Saudi Arabia also posted their second win after a 62-51 decision against the UAE, while Kuwait bounced back from their opening-night loss with an 84-76 triumph over Qatar. Today is a rest day. Action resumes tomorrow with another three games on the cards. At 4pm, Kuwait and the UAE face off followed at 6pm by Oman and Saudi going head to head. The final fixture of the night is Bahrain against Qatar, which is scheduled for an 8pm tip-off. All games are being played at the Bahrain Basketball Association arena in Um Al Hassam. At the end of the tournament, the first and second-placed teams book their tickets to the 2020 Fiba U18 Asian Championship. In Bahrain's win last night, their impressive first quarter showing set the tone for the rest of the game. They extended their advantage to 61-17 at the half, before taking a 94-31 advantage into the final period. They cruised from there, with head coach Salman Ramadhan allowing his bench to finish the contest. The Bahrainis led by as many as 73 points in the game. Mustafa led all scorers with 33, including an impressive seven three-pointers. He also had five rebounds and five steals in the game. Muzamil added 21 markers to go with 12 rebounds, six steals and four blocks. Five other players finished in double-figures for Bahrain. Ali Own had 15, Emran Ali had 12, Salman Alkaabi contributed 11 and Abdulla Alromaihi and Ahmed Dindayneh both had 10. Zakariya Al Wahaibi had 15 to lead Oman. He was their only player in double-figures.
