WLBL Round 17 (Regular Season): Al Riyadi lose to Homentmen

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Al Riyadi (15-2) in Beirut on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by Homentmen (16-1) 94-86. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Al Riyadi. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Strangely Al Riyadi outrebounded Homentmen 39-27 including a 20-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Homentmen looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Al Riyadi's players. The best player for the winners was the former international Reem El Ghali (181-2007) who scored 30 points and 6 rebounds. International guard Perla Nasr (177-1999) chipped in 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international Rebecca Akl (170-1992) produced 36 points (!!!) for the hosts. Homentmen have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Defending champion Al Riyadi dropped to the second place with two games lost.
The game in Beirut supposed to be also worth to mention about. Third ranked Azour (13-4) played at the court of 7th ranked Antranik (6-11). Azour smashed Antranik 96-50. International center Zena Elias (190-2000, college: USA) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. Melody Saneh contributed with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Joudy Harake answered with 10 points and 6 rebounds for Antranik. Azour maintains third place with 13-4 record having just three points less than leader Homentmen A. Antranik lost their sixth game in a row. They keep the seventh position with 11 games lost. They share it with Damour.

In the last two games of round 17 Damour was defeated by Beirut FC in a road game 72-54. Almtayleb was smashed by Bkennaya at home 51-86.
The best stats of 17th round was 30 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals by Sandra Beddawi of Bkennaya.

Beirut FC - Damour 72-54

There was no surprise when 7th ranked Damour (6-11) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Beirut FC (9-7) 72-54. Beirut FC forced 22 Damour turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Maryam Jomaa (165-2003, agency: BIG) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 8 assists. Yasmina Samra contributed with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals for the winners. The former international Nathalie Sevadjian (170-1988) answered with 18 points and 5 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and Claritta Fakhry added 13 points in the effort for Damour. Damour's coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Newly promoted Beirut FC maintains fourth place with 9-7 record. Damour at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the seventh position with 11 games lost. They share it with Antranik.

Azour players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. International center Zena Elias (190-2000, college: USA) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. The former international forward Melody Saneh (188-2001) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Azour players scored in double figures. The game between closely ranked teams ended with eighth ranked Bkennaya's (6-10) road victory over 9th ranked Almtayleb (1-16) 86-51. Bkennaya dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Almtayleb's 34 and made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game.
