WLBL Round 15 (Regular Season): Al Riyadi keep a leadership position

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in WLBL. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Al Riyadi as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Al Riyadi smashed 4th placed Beirut FC at home 103-33. Al Riyadi dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Beirut FC's 22. Al Riyadi forced 23 Beirut FC turnovers and outrebounded them 49-20 including a 19-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Al Riyadi looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Beirut FC's players. It was a good game for the former international center Chirine El Charif (184-1984) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 15 rebounds and 9 assists. The former international guard Nour Labban (170-2005) contributed with 22 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Maryam Jomaa (165-2003, agency: BIG) answered with 18 points and 8 rebounds for Beirut FC. Beirut FC's coach gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Al Riyadi (14-1) have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Homentmen. Newly promoted Beirut FC keeps the fourth place with six games lost. Beirut FC will play next round against strong Homentmen trying to get back on the winning streak. Al Riyadi will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Azour on the road.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 15: Bkennaya was beaten by Azour on the road 72-62. Antranik lost to NSA on its own court 67-77. Damour managed to outperform Almtayleb in a road game 76-68.
The most impressive performance of 15th round was 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists by Nathalie Sevadjian of Damour.

Azour - Bkennaya 72-62

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Azour (12-3) beat at home 8th ranked Bkennaya (4-10) 72-62 on Tuesday. Azour forced 19 Bkennaya turnovers and outrebounded them 42-25 including a 15-0 advantage in offensive rebounds. Azour looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for international center Zena Elias (190-2000, college: USA) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. The former international forward Patil Assadourian (174-2004) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Four Azour players scored in double figures. Center Sandra Beddawi (168-1992, agency: BIG) answered with 21 points and 6 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and Pia Khattar added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Bkennaya. Azour have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 12-3 record having just two points less than leader Al Riyadi. Bkennaya lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with ten games lost. Azour are looking forward to face league's leader Al Riyadi in Beirut in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bkennaya will play at home against Antranik (#5) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.

Antranik - NSA 67-77

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 5th ranked Antranik (6-9) lost to sixth ranked NSA (6-10) in Beirut 67-77 on Wednesday. NSA outrebounded Antranik 56-37 including 41 on the defensive glass. NSA looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Antranik helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American guard Syrita Faraj (175, college: St.Rose, NY) who led her team to a victory with 41 points (!!!) and 19 rebounds. The former international Nancy Maalouf (174-1988) contributed with 14 points, 22 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. NSA's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Joudy Harake answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds and Massoud Loulwa added 17 points and 5 steals in the effort for Antranik. NSA maintains sixth place with 6-10 record, which they share with Damour. Antranik lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with nine games lost. NSA is looking forward to face Almtayleb (#9) in the next round. Antranik will play against Bkennaya (#8) and is hoping to win this game.

Rather predictable result when seventh ranked Damour (6-10) won against on the road 9th ranked Almtayleb (1-14) 76-68 on Thursday. Damour outrebounded Almtayleb 50-34 including a 37-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Damour looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for the former international Nathalie Sevadjian (170-1988) who led her team to a victory with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Feleccina Jarjoura contributed with 9 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Damour's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Nour Chahine answered with 22 points and 8 rebounds and guard Mathilda Khalil added 24 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Almtayleb. Damour moved-up to sixth place, which they share with NSA. Almtayleb lost their eleventh game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 14 games lost. Damour will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Almtayleb will play against NSA (#6) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
