LBL Round 10 (Regular Season): Sagesse lose to Antonine

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Round 10 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Sagesse (8-2). They were edged by seventh ranked Antonine (5-5) 80-79 on Saturday night. American forward Terry Larrier (203-1995, college: UConn) scored 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Bryan Mansour (188-2004) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Tunisian forward Radhouane Slimane (204-1980) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Antonine moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Homentmen and Antranik. Sagesse at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Al Riyadi who have the same record. Sagesse will play next round against Antranik trying to make it back to the top of the standings. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will face at home their local rival from Beirut - Antranik. Antonine will try to continue on its current victory against first ranked Al Riyadi in Beirut.

Even 16 points and 7 rebounds by American guard Dashaun Wiggins (188-1991, college: Portland St.) did not help to save the game for Mayrouba. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Al Riyadi have a solid four-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Beirut Club and Sagesse. Mayrouba lost eighth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom place with nine games lost. Mayrouba will play next round against NSA trying to get back on the winning streak. Al Riyadi will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Antonine on the road.
Quite upsetting was Homentmen's home defeat in a game versus Champville 88-84. Javion Blake fired 38 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Dewayne Jackson produced 18 points and 9 rebounds for lost side. Champville maintains fourth position with 6-4 record. Loser Homentmen keeps the fifth place with five games lost. They share the position with Antonine and Antranik. Champville will meet at home higher ranked Beirut Club (#3) in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Homentmen's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Beirut to the arena Hoops.

In the last two games of round 10 NSA lost to Beirut Club on the opponent's court 92-103. Antranik managed to outperform Hoops in a home game 86-78.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 19 points and 15 rebounds by Duby Okeke of Hoops.




Al Riyadi - Mayrouba 104-73

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Al Riyadi as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Sagesse) loss. Al Riyadi smashed 10th ranked Mayrouba in Beirut 104-73. Al Riyadi dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Mayrouba's 32 and made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Al Riyadi players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Mayrouba's players. International guard Wael Arakji (194-1994) notched a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 assists to lead the effort and Palestinian power forward Sani Sakakini (204-1988) supported him with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Even 16 points and 7 rebounds by American guard Dashaun Wiggins (188-1991, college: Portland St.) did not help to save the game for Mayrouba. Very expected game when 8th ranked NSA (2-8) was defeated on the road by third ranked Beirut Club (8-2) 103-92 on Saturday. Beirut Club looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American-Jordanian Dar Tucker (193-1988, college: DePaul) fired 29 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. The former international power forward Mohamad Haidar (203-1990, college: Michigan Tech) chipped in 33 points (!!!). American forward Calvin Godfrey (204-1990, college: Memphis) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Joseph Zaloum (180-1990) added 18 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Beirut Club keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Al Riyadi and Sagesse. Newly promoted NSA keeps the eighth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Hoops. Beirut Club will meet Champville (#4) in the next round. NSA will play against Mayrouba (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
