LBL Round 22: Leader Beirut Club gets another victory

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in LBL. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Leader Beirut Club delivered the sixteenth win on Saturday night. This time they crushed 8th ranked Atlas (4-14) 142-70. Beirut Club dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Atlas' 28. They outrebounded Atlas 54-26 including a 37-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Beirut Club looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Atlas' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Beirut Club made 8 blocks. The former international forward Hayk Gyokchyan (203-1990, college: F&M) fired 75 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. The former international point guard Rodrigue Akl (187-1988) chipped in 13 points, 7 rebounds and 19 assists. Beirut Club's coach Ahmad Farran felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Elie Bedran (203-2002) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for lost side. Beirut Club (16-2) have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Atlas lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Homentmen. Beirut Club will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Atlas will play at home against Al Riyadi (#3) and are hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
The game in Beirut supposed to be also worth to mention about. Fifth ranked Champville (11-7) played at the court of 7th ranked Hoops (9-9). Champville smashed Hoops 85-59. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international swingman Elias Rustom (197-1987) who helped to win the game recording 24 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Patrick Bou Abboud contributed with 21 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Hicham El Helou replied with 19 points and 5 steals for Hoops. Hoops' coach gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Champville have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 11-7 record. Hoops at the other side keep the seventh place with nine games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Beirut: Dynamo (#2) and Homentmen (#9). Dynamo (15-4) smashed visiting Homentmen (4-14) by 36 points 128-92. Jimmy Salem scored 24 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners. At the losing side Serouj Avedissian responded with 21 points and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Dynamo have a solid four-game winning streak. Newly promoted Dynamo maintains second position with 15-4 record behind leader Beirut Club. Loser Homentmen dropped to the eighth place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Atlas. Dynamo will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Homentmen's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Beirut Antranik.

In the last two games of round 22 Byblos was crushed by Antranik in Beirut 119-75. Byblos smashed Anibal at home 93-71.
The best stats of 22th round was 36 points (!!!), 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals by Mohamed Skaf of Byblos.



Dynamo - Homentmen 128-92

Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Beirut: Dynamo (#2) and Homentmen (#9). Dynamo (15-4) smashed visiting Homentmen (4-14) by 36 points 128-92. Dynamo dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Homentmen's 40. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The former international guard Jimmy Salem (190-1995) scored 24 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the former international point guard Jad Khalil (186-1996) chipped in 20 points and 6 assists during the contest. At the losing side Serouj Avedissian responded with 21 points and 5 assists and Nader Dhainy scored 19 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Dynamo have a solid four-game winning streak. Antranik - Byblos 119-75

There was no surprise in Beirut where 10th ranked Byblos (3-17) were crushed by seventh ranked Antranik (10-8) 119-75 on Thursday. Antranik made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Antranik outrebounded Byblos 53-41 including a 42-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 18 long-distance shots on high 58.1 percentage. Antranik looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Jean-Marc Jarrouge scored 52 points (!!!) to lead the charge for the winners and guard Karl Assi (187-1998) chipped in 10 points and 12 assists during the contest. At the losing side Bechara Boustany responded with 19 points and 5 rebounds and forward William Sawan (201-1998) scored 13 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Antranik moved-up to sixth place. Byblos lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with 17 games lost. Antranik's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Beirut to the arena Homentmen.

Mohamed Skaf scored 36 points (!!!), 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals to lead the charge for the winners and Georges Souaid chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Byblos' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Ghassan Tacca responded with 11 points and 8 rebounds and Christopher Maalouf scored 12 points. Four Anibal players scored in double figures. Byblos maintains tenth position with 3-17 record. Anibal lost tenth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 18 lost games. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
