Tigers ENU captured the 34th Kazakhstan Women's Higher League championship on Friday, closing out their title-winning campaign with a comprehensive 55-40 victory over Zhetisu Farm at the Zhaksy 2 Sports Complex.
The Astana-based side controlled the contest from start to finish, taking a 16-12 first-quarter lead and suffocating Zhetisu's offense throughout. Tigers ENU held their opponents to single-digit scoring in three of the four quarters — including a miserly 10-10-8 across the second, third, and fourth periods — as coach Aziza Temirgazy's defensive system proved impenetrable.
Dariya Tsukanova (178-F-2007) led the scoring with 19 points on 6-of-15 from the field — including two three-pointers — adding 5-of-6 from the free-throw line, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals in a marathon 38 minutes. Season MVP Karakat Satzhanova (185-F-2008) was her typical all-around self with 16 points, eight rebounds (five offensive), and a steal in 34 minutes, anchoring the attack at both ends. Yuliya Shmakova contributed 10 points and seven rebounds, while Liana Dymovskikh added four points and five rebounds in a defensive-oriented display.
As a team, Tigers ENU shot 35 percent from the field (21-of-60) — modest numbers, but their defensive effort was the story. They held Zhetisu Farm to just 25 percent shooting (15-of-60) and dominated on the boards 37-42, with 13 offensive rebounds generating second-chance opportunities that kept the scoreboard ticking over even when shots weren't falling.
For Zhetisu Farm, Aiya Nurgozhanova (175-SG-2006) led with 16 points on 6-of-15 shooting and six rebounds, while A. Nurbolatkyzy added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Anzhelika Ikizhanova (165-G-2007) also contributed 11 points and eight rebounds. But the visitors shot a dismal 25 percent from the floor and could not overcome Tigers ENU's suffocating pressure, committing 23 turnovers against 13 steals.
The championship was accompanied by individual season awards. Satzhanova was named the league's Most Valuable Player, while Tsukanova and Dymovskikh were selected to the All-League symbolic five. Temirgazy was honored as the season's Best Coach, capping a remarkable campaign for the Tigers ENU program.
